We decided to try the canteen for our last night in the city, and we are so glad we did! We ordered the radicchio and apple salad, oysters, seared scallops, pan-fried haddock, and seafood chowder. The food was beautifully presented, the flavors were perfectly balanced, and there was absolutely no grit! Drinks were great.nnBefore visiting, we checked out some reviews and were curious about the chowder, given some mixed feedback. It’s clear that those who were disappointed were expecting something like a canned seafood chowder. Don’t let the negative reviews deter you from this fantastic spot!nnOne minor piece of feedback: when we arrived, the maître d’ asked what brought us in and then inquired about our Prosecco preference, but there wasn’t any follow-up. It left us wondering if there might have been a special touch in store. Overall, we had a lovely experience.
We wanted to ride the ferry so we chose this restaurant. The atmosphere was quite nice. We ordered a summer harvest salad, a seafood chowder, a cobster roll and a haddock. The salad was surprisingly small for the price. It was more like a side dish. The cobster roll and the fries were pretty good and the bread was toasted. The haddock was excellent. We had better seafood chowder somewhere else. The restaurant was not full but it looked like they were under staffed. Kitchen was slow and our server was always busy.
Had a great brunch of french toast with brie, walnuts, and pears, with friends having a variety of other dishes. You can order scrambled egg instead of the fried egg on the menu. They were very accommodating of some food sensitivities some of us had. Server was friendly and helpful and food was delicious. Pretty affordable for a fancy downtown brunch - we skipped coffee and dessert and our bill with tip for two people was $51.
Amazing food & drinks. Service was excellent and atmosphere was very nice.nnOur waiter was super friendly and had a great sense of humour. He was very knowledgeable about the menu.nnI ordered the Crobster Roll with fries, as I’ve heard great things about it and it’s currently in season! My partner ordered Ricotta Gnocchi, which is only on the menu for a limited time.nnEverything was delicious. The seafood on my roll was super fresh and my fries nice and crispy, and lightly seasoned. My partner also really loved her gnocchi I had a taste and can agree that it was fantastic.nnFor drinks, I ordered the Portland Street Paloma and my partner ordered a featured Margarita. Both drinks were amazing and we were very satisfied.nnWe didn’t order dessert because we got full, but will definitely visit again.
We made the mistake of not making a reservation ahead of time and they were all fully booked for Sunday dinner in mid-June. However, they told us they could accommodate us for an hour which we gladly accepted!nnMussels had good flavors but were a bit salty due to the inclusion of bacon. Really liked the crobster roll, which was very fresh. The fries that accompanied were a little salty must've been a different batch from the ones with the mussels because those were perfect. The scallop and pea risotto was delicious - very seasonal and fresh with the subtle fruity and vegetal flavors.nnService was amazing from beginning to end. They could've turned us away but they didn't, and we never felt rushed because the food came out so fast with the exception of the mussels which might have been forgotten, but was brought out quickly as soon as we asked. Cute and comfortable ambiance and wonderfully welcoming staff. Street parking is very limited to find, so plan accordingly.
