We've been staying in B&Bs for over 20 years and this one - is the best of all, from East Coast to West Coast, far outdoing even those of Europe.  It started with the glass of wine upon arrival, the chocolates with turn down service and the most amazing 5-course breakfast (expect to stay 1.5 hours - breakfast is an event all of its own).  

We booked the whole B&B for a family event.  The host, Richard, felt like part of our  family from the start.  He brilliantly mastered every moment of our stay, including a complicated surprise.  The downstairs apartment was perfect for teen nieces and nephews.  The Alexander room was comfortable for those over 6'6".  The house is grand and you feel it from the minute you park on the grounds, walk onto the porch and enter the double wooden doors.  Classical music is infused through the main floor.  There's easily a book for any hungry mind on the shelves.  Twelve flavors for tea available 24 hours a day.  All necessities are from the luxurious Watkins line that has been the heart of this town since 1885, a year before this mansion was built.  

Photos will not do this place justice.  You just need to come and experience it.  You feel a peacefulness throughout your stay, despite the chaos of your day.  The worst part - we had stuff to do, but never wanted to leave The Mansion!

If we could give Richard and his mansion 6 stars, we would. We were treated like family, and all the little touches added up to a great experience.  The breakfasts were outstanding as well as the accommodations.  Winona has a lot going for it as a destination, and  there are many other attractions up and down the river. Evening meals (you won't need lunch after Richards breakfast) are easily handled by a variety of nice eating places.  If you appreciate fine art and photography, talk to Richard about the art museum along the river.  This is a real gem, and so is the Alexander Mansion.  This is the new benchmark for excellence.

Awesome bnb.  Lumpy bed but breakfast was amazing.  Great suggestions.  Martha's room has no shower, only a tub.  Individual A/C unit in the room.

We stayed there this weekend for the 7th time. If there is no available rooms then we don't go to Winona. Richard,the owner , is a wonderful host. The house is beautiful and the breakfast is so good. You won't need to eat lunch. No other place can even come close to what you get at the Alexander Mansion.

Richard and staff are just fantastic. The atmosphere, people and the suites are amazing. The special consideration they pay to your every need and the meal preparation and presentation makes you feel and know it is all about you at this time. We will be back every chance we get, and plan for our family to have this special retreat.  Thank you Richard for making our stay warm and special.
