First time going with my partner and we loved the food and atmosphere. We swear they knew what we were ordering because the appetizers, drinks and food came out so fast and fresh. The staff were fast and attentive as well. Great date night and we want to go back for the live music.Food: 5/5
Great spin on Japanese good downtown with a bonus of combining with Umani! Cheese curds were definitely in the run for best downtown and worth the hype around them. Sushi was good though I personally didn't think it was better than RED. Overall still 5/5
First time tried Tavernakaya and was completely bowled over. Made reservations online and we were seated as soon as we are arrived. Our server was great and helped answer our questions and made good recommendations. The restaurant is located right across from the Capitol so a perfect location for dining out with excellent service, and friendly atmosphere. Everything we tried was delicious and nicely presented. Loved the poke bowl, spider roll, and chicken dumplings. The poke bowl was the star of the evening, it was so fresh and full of flavors. I will be back to try other things on the menu. Highly Recommend!!
The main courses were okay, but nothing special. Seems like they specialize more on appetizers and drinks. The tempura cheese curds were really good but the poke had too much sauce that didn't go well with the tuna and my rice was soaked. I'd say it's a decent place for Japanese food if you compare it to other Japanese restaurants around Madison, but not a place I'd be thinking about returning to so much. Service was okay.
All around great food here. The sushi is honestly pretty little and comes in small portions, but it has a great taste and texture to it. The pork buns were delicious as well. The atmosphere is sophisticated and well designed, and the service was great. Overall it was a very solid experience dining here and I’d recommend it to anyone searching out some sushi or ramen in the Madison area.
This place has never disappointed. Good food and even if they are booked with reservations, you can probably find space at the bar. Beautiful view of the Capital. A bit pricey, but the quality is worth it. Vegetarian options: Veg and Vegan options Wheelchair accessibility: ADA accessible
Sorry, but we will not return. - Minus one star because my ramen was not enjoyable. I would not recommend it to anyone who likes ramen. - Minus another star because my husband’s salmon roll were 6 tiny pieces the size of my thumbnail. I should have taken a picture. The other sushi pics look better. - Minus the last star because the service was extremely slow. People were nice, the place was clean and maybe we just caught them on a bad night, but it was an unfortunate experience.
I have nothing but good things to say about this place. The wait staff are very nice, the service is quick, and the food is amazing. I would definitely recommend the Tonkotsu Ramen. It is slightly pricier but only very slightly than other Asian restaurants in Madison, but it is worth EVERY penny.
I was told all of the tables outside were reserved, but only 2 people were sitting out there. Honestly the food was pretty good, but the service was horrible. Two servers walked by and never took our order; it took forever to even get an order put in and they did not care if we had water or not since we didn't order alcohol, yikes. The customer service was so bad that we were not even greeted by hostess or server. Our server did not care about us one bit, someone else refilled our waters...it seemed no one wanted to be there.
Great restaurant on the square! Lots of menu options to choose from. Our server was very helpful and gave good recommendations, including for sake, which was excellent. We ended up with a few sushi rolls - all were very fresh and tasty, and some Mochi ice cream for dessert.
