I very rarely give anywhere a poor rating. I used to enjoy a few trips to TAPshack each summer but something has changed. They now exclusively serve you by getting you to scan a QR code that is attached to the tables. They ask you to give your tip before you see your food or waiter, and have the standard 18/20/22 suggestions. I'm usually a very generous tipper, fill my tummy and refill my water a few times and you're looking at 30%+ so i can make up for being a solo diner, but how unbalanced does it become if waiters receive their tip before food even arrives? Both trips this summer I only saw my waiter when they dropped off food, is that worth 20%+ of an already pricey meal? there are no drink refills, no customer service. If there were a clear label that the tips are fully shared with the cooks to restore balance I would be for it, but still only if the tip is at the end of the meal. Look at these disgusting nachos that cost me 30$ photo attached, zoom in because the thumbnail looks tasty but the food itself was dry as heck- I barely ate the top right corner, I didn't touch the rest, I paid 5$ for extra cheese and 4$ for the chicken, on top of the regular price of 21$. The chicken is fine but do these look like 30$ nachos? There was no salsa or sour cream - some sour cream directly on the nachos which they used to fill it in, but nobody orders nachos and expects this. It's shameful. The week before, I got a grilled cheese. Lets just say it didn't taste like a grilled cheese sandwich even though that is what it was. The texture was wrong. I won't try them again with their new QR code service. Hopefully for them it increases their throughput but I can't stomach tipping them again before seeing the food and service.
Absolutely horrible. The only positive thing about this restaurant is it’s location other than that they have nothing. The food was really low quality and the service was absolutely horrible. We ordered nachos, hummus and pizza. The nachos had a small amount of toppings on the top and nothing between the layers. The nachos didn’t come with any dips so it was very dry. No dip no toppings what kind of nachos is that? Why did I pay 22$ for this? The hummus was supper garlicky and Made me feel sick after. The pizza wasn’t that bad. You have to pay before eating your meal and I tipped 20% before knowing what kind of service or food I’m getting. I asked for water 3times and didn’t get anything. I wanted to ask for hot sauce for my pizza but the waitress went the extra miles to ignore me. Anyway, I won’t go back here and I don’t not recommend it.
Listen, location is great. The sounds of the water feature just off the seawall. Truly lovely. It is a tap shack-- so food is okay, beers on tap are great choices not just Stanley Park or Granville thank God. Great for what it is. But the digital ordering is hilariously bad. Sorry tap shack. Our order was wrong twice.
Pros: the pizza and the views from the patio are great. Cons: EVERYTHING else. What a shame as the location is great and clearly things have gone downhill lately. You order your drinks at the bar, but they then take over half an hour to be delivered to your table - even a simple beer. The food took an hour to be delivered. The lacklustre nachos came covered in feta cheese despite ordering without feta. We informed the server and it took another half hour to get a replacement. The boneless chicken wings were awful, dry and tasteless. We were there on a sunny Saturday, but there were still tables free on the patio, and inside was empty, but it seemed desperately understaffed, even with the ordering at the bar. I was hoping that the recent reviews were incorrect. Unfortunately my experience seems spookily similar to the other recent negative reviews. Cannot recommend until some serious changes are made.
Stunning views of the coal harbour! The menu didn't have a lot of options, but the food was good. Love the beer selection and the fresh tuna. They have happy hour between 4-6 pm, then 9 pm until close. It's worth a visit for sure!
Garbage drinks and service. Asked for a virgin mojito for a couple kids…they did not make it correctly to muddle the sugar into the mint leaf. Or even add syrup to the mint and lime. Server said he couldn’t do anything and bartender wouldn’t do anything. Upon requesting to speak to the bartender, we Asked the bartender about how he made. He got very defensive and offered to remake and with much more sugar. I told him no because he would only add all sugar and still make it improperly. Garbage place and garbage service here. Do not come! Thank you owner for reaching out, but the fact that the only service I can get is if I pre order and PAY Before I get anything or see a server is not conducive for me to come back with ensured decent service or drinks. I’d rather a refund.
I use to come here occasionally before and it was good. Now they make you pay for your food and tip before you even see your food or interact with your server. I only got half of my order until I had to wave and call 5 times to get the server’s attention, who was rude to say the least and he brought it for me and just put it on the table and left without even a word. It’s unfortunate that a great local spot like this is being managed so poorly. Hopefully more people will share their experience and it would grab the attention of the management for future improvements.
I hate writing this review because we have lived in Vancouver for over 2 years and have enjoyed coming here in the summers. This summer has been a huge disappointment. The location is great for sure and the food is pricy but has always been fine plus it wasn’t the main reason we would come. The issue is the service this summer. For some reason it is now order at the bar or on the app so you don’t have a server. That means every table is dirty and even if there aren’t dirty dishes there the table hasn’t been wiped off and you can’t find anyone to do it. You don’t get water served at the table again, you can’t find anyone to give it to you. The only vodka available was Grey Goose which was almost $20 they said they were sold out of everything else. Then the drinks took forever to arrive and they were warm and watered down. Just tonight the person dropped off our drinks and we tried to get them to wipe down the table and they ignored us and just walked away. We ordered food and had no utensils. The floor is disgusting—dirty napkins, pizza crusts, crushed up crackers, etc. The workers dropping food and drinks off just step right over it. This is such a change from last summer when there were hosts, servers, and definitely more tables. Tonight both our entrees arrived cold over $20 each. The bottom line is this is a great location with a beautiful view but obviously they don’t have the staff to run it properly. I hope by next summer it is back to way it has been in the past because for the price of the food and the drinks I feel there are WAY better restaurants that are clean and provide at least a basic level of service—like clean tables and floors. Only giving 2 stars because I love the location and have enjoyed it in the past—otherwise if I were a tourist trying it out for the first time it would definitely be less.
Excellent service and nice food the patio es so nice with the view to the north Vancouver and with a fountains next. I hope they can add the pretzel soon just because I like me it.
We were seated right away which was great since they were busy that night. We had a waitress take our drink order and while we waited on our drinks a 2nd waitress brought us some water. Come to find out the 2nd waitress was our ACTUAL waitress. Now that is fine - but they never bothered to talk to one another so when our waitress came to take our food order we had to once again place our drink and appetizer order which we had been waiting for. The 1st waitress walked by our table many times and didnt even have the courtesy of letting us know that someone elae would be taking care of us. If it was not part of the training well it would just be common courtesy. While Im sure that the staff are all qualified to work at this establishment perhaps a reminder during training of proper hygiene wouldnt hurt especially for your front staff. The food presentation was nice but the food was cold. As the night went on it became darker and colder. The patio which is by the water had no heating lamps or at least had not been turned on. Overall I still rate this spot 3 stars because even after all the confusion our 2nd waitress really did try to make up for the mixup and was genuinely apologetic. The ambiance nice great for an intimate get together or a date night.
