Story

Owner and award winning groomer Deidre Howard has been grooming dogs professionally for over 15+ years. She graduated from Pampered Paws Grooming Academy, here in her home town of Toronto in 1997. Shortly after graduating, Deidre moved to the west coast and settled in Vancouver where she ran several successful doggy spas over a 12 year period.

Deidre has won multiple awards for her grooming, including being honoured as the Silver Winner of the 2002 Best in the West – WestEnder Readers’ Choice award in the category of Best Dog Groomer, and the Georgia Straight Readers’ Choice Winner for Best Pet Grooming/Best Pet Spa in 2007 and 2008, and a Silver award in 2009.

In the fall of 2011, Deidre returned home to Toronto to open Tailspin Dog Spa, a downtown spa oasis for dogs.

Deidre believes that every dog that comes to Tailspin Dog Spa is unique in their own special way, and deserves the best love and care she can give them. She does this by ensuring a stress free environment, utilizing aromatherapy and hydro massage bath and conditioning as a standard part of every treatment. She insists on using only eco-friendly shampoos and products.

Amazing experience every time!! Yoshi is an Aussie doodle mix and always so happy after each groom with Ru! We have been visiting Tail Spin Dog Spa since Yoshi was 4 months old will be 1 year soon and they never disappoint!! The care Ru takes with her each time and the genuine excitement makes me feel like I am leaving her in excellent hands.

Dee and the team at Tailspin are amazing! Billie is a senior dog with a few health issues and I never worry about leaving her there. They take such great care of her and she always comes home looking, smelling and feeling fresh. I highly recommend Dee and the Tailspin team!

Dee and her team at Tailspin are absolutely wonderful.  They have taken care of my pup with great kindness, patience and love.  Arlo can be a nervous pup, but he loves going to Tailspin and always comes home happy and looking wonderful.  We are so thrilled to have found Dee and her team.  I could not recommend them more highly.

I was quoted the price of $90, I was shocked when I picked up my dog and there was NO justification as to why I was charged  $120 for a little Shi-Poo who is a well behaved senior dog. NO EXCUSE.  You need to learn how to retain customers and not give price shock when picking up the dog after the haircut. I've taken my dogs for grooming for 20 years to other groomers so I know by experience this is not ethical. Other than that, the hair was cut uneven and was not cut short as requested. Definitely not going back. They said it ranges and starts at $90 it can be more if the dog needs more than one handler, condition of the coat which did not apply to my dog. Shady way to do business.

The woman tried to charge me $25 for a nail trim. The sign said $20, called her out on it and she said "Oh the sign wasn't updated". I also called a week ahead and the person on the phone said it would be $20 so that's a lie, what a scam. To make things worse they cut my dog's right nail way too deep because she was busy talking to someone while doing it. My dog squealed and her nail started bleeding.

Thank you to Greg and the rest of the team at Tail Spin for so many great groomings of my Shih Tzu! We loved the personal touch and connection that was made at every appointment. Finding a quality groomer took time but we are so happy to have found Tail Spin!

I absolutely trust the staff here with my dog. I have a teacup poodle that have soft puppy hair. She can become hypoglycemic if stressed. They finished the job fast and my dog walked out pretty and happy. Their lovely staff even added a cute little scarf to complete the look, I love it! They charged me at a very reasonable price as my dog is well trained for grooming, besides, I comb her everyday to make sure her hair is not tangled. If you are considerate to others, they will treat you the same way.

Tail Spin is an incredible groomer. We have been taking our almost 13 year old dog here her whole life and wouldn't go anywhere else. Dee and her staff are so professional and attentive and always leave our sweet dog looking and smelling great. They go above and beyond and really take the time to explain the best hair cut for the dog based on the condition of the coat. A few times we have unfortunately had our dog get a bit matted when we haven't been to the salon regularly enough or keeping up with brushing, but they always find a great solution. Can't recommend this place highly enough!

I have been taking my Yorkie, Daisy, to tailspin for around a year now. We have had nothing but amazing and accommodating service from our groomer Greg! He is always willing to move appointments to fit our schedule and Daisy is always ready very quickly. Great communication, fair prices and she always looks gorgeous!

My standard poodle was overdue for a full groom thanks to my own poor planning, and Tailspin was able to fit her in. I was absolutely thrilled with the results! The team was very friendly and Deirdre clearly loves dogs, especially poodles, and I could tell Juno really liked her. Juno got a beautiful short summer clip and looks fantastic. The price was pretty much exactly what I expected -- especially because I knew she had a bit of matting in places I didn't pay close enough attention to. Will definitely be bringing her back! Bonus: on the 30 second walk back to my car, three separate people stopped us to say her cut looked beautiful!
