Story

Our office uses the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association (NUCCA) method of treatment. This method of treatment is based on three basic principles:

Correcting the alignment of the spine.
Stabilizing the spine’s alignment.
Educating patients as to how to maintain proper spinal alignment.

The NUCCA method of treatment works with the body’s ability to heal itself. Once a misalignment has been diagnosed, a slight pressure will be applied to the top of your neck to gently slip the top vertebra back into alignment. There is no twisting, popping, or cracking with this type of chiropractic treatment. At set intervals in the course of treatment, you will need to return to the office to have your alignment assessed and realigned as necessary. With the top most vertebra in its proper place, the rest of your spine will slowly self correct over a period of a couple of weeks.

It takes a further two to four weeks for the spine to stabilize in this position. You are stabilized when the muscles holding your spine in place have been straightened to comfortably hold your new alignment while you go about normal activities.

Diagnosis of any misalignment is done in two stages. First, we assess the relationship between hips, shoulders and head using a precise measuring device. Then, if any one of these three areas is out of alignment, a specific set of x-rays is taken.

The consultations and atlas alignment was life changing.  I play goalie in hockey and I was experiencing discomfort to the point of quitting hockey for almost a year.  I was referred to check out Spinal Care.  Not only was I able to go back to playing hockey 1 game a week, I went on to playing for two teams 2-3 games a week and was able to play 5-game weekend tournaments I was about 42 at the time. I regained much more flexibility with the help of yoga too and was able to get back into weight training. It felt weird and different for a few months as my body aligned itself and stopped compensating.  5+ years later and Im still doing amazing. I have been a patient of Dr. Schmaus' for several years and even though sceptical at first, I can say that this treatment has changed my life! I was treated for migraines and pain in my neck and shoulders and after only several treatments condition has improved significantly. We have 4 family members who have seen all the chiropractic specialists at Symmetry Spinal over the past 5 years. We all have much less or little pain. If the pain returns, we simply return to Symmetry Spinal for an adjustment. We feel the investment in our pain management was well worth the initial  cost. Maintenance usually involves 1 or 2 adjustments per year. We are very happy with the care we have received while being treated by the staff and professionals at Symmetry Spinal.

This has changed my life! I am over 60 years old and my mother refused a Cesarean birth. This caused a traumatic birth, one that frankly she complained about all her life, but guess who she dragged along for the ride. That would be me. The forceps caused my head to be misshaped and killed parts of my brain. What I did not know is it also changed how my head and neck alligned. In the last ten years, I had two accidents that made matters worse. My situation was complicated and Dr. Ongaro was concerned about what she might be able to do. Yet in just one treatment she adjusted or slid over my C-1 also called Atlas bone. No Snap and Pop like other Chiropractors. Instantly, I was taller, my posture was straight and my brain was so much more alive, I like to say on fire. Everything is different. Issues that doctors, surgeons and others said that nothing could be done were instantly fixed. Life is different. Even my face looks different and yes, I am happier! I can not thank Dr. Ongaro and Symmetry Spinal Care enough! But still here goes; THANK YOU !

After just one NUCCA session with Dr.Ongaro I felt relief from my TMJ pain.  She was very thorough, went over the details of my x-rays to help me understand what was happening. It's now helped me with neck and shoulder issues that I've had for over 20 years.  Highly recommend her!

My experience at this clinic was very beneficial, I saw huge improvement in my RA,  slept better than I had in yrs. I would be returning for check ups if I still lived in AB but have moved back to BC.
