Very fresh ingredients and good selection on the menu -- some thoughtful combinations that I wish other restaurants had. But I'm scoring lower because these were the smallest, thinnest pieces of sushi that I've seen in 10 years. Also the Yam was undercooked firm and crunchy. I'm sure on another day it will be better. I will give a second chance. Vegetarian options: Good veg selection
I have best dinning experience ever. Its my first time, I tried their chicken Yakisoba. Oh my god, its so delicious as well as their customer Service. I would recommend it. I am still in the restaurant but I can’t stop myself to post a review about them.
I always heard that this place and Nori were the best places for Japanese food in Nanaimo. Well they are certainly right but I haven't tried enough to judge between the two places. Ryu's lunch box for $18 was well worth it. It's way way better than an Edo $16 Bento box.
Didn’t expect such a modern looking restaurant when first walking in. We went at an off time so it wasn’t busy and our food came quickly. High quality fish, everything plated beautifully, service was amazing. I don’t really have anything bad to say about this place so if you’re going through Nanaimo, I highly recommend stopping here.
This place is amazing! Beautiful presentation, everything is fresh and super tasty. Friendly staff, perfect interior and huge size portion with a reasonable price! Will be back next time in the area! Vegetarian options: A huge amount of vegetarian and vegan options!
Great spot for some sushi! We stumbled on this place while visiting nanaimo and it did not disappoint. Inside the restaurant feels new, clean, and well staffed.
Great sushi place on the island! Highly recommend the Lemon Drop roll, very unique roll that was surprisingly the best thing I'd ordered! Staff were great, and again, absolutely delicious! Will be back again next time I'm in Nanaimo for sure.
Stopped by for a quick lunch while on our way to Ucluelet. Not bad, I was hungover so the Spicy Seafood Champong hit the spot. There were a lot of seafood in there, a good value bowl of udon noodles.
Almost always a great dinner. Prices have jumped a bunch, but I guess that goes the same everywhere. Great service and even brought out a giraffe toy for our grand daughter to use while there.Food: 4/5
A great find in the Nanaimo area, Sushi Ryu was still hopping when we stopped in for a late 2pm lunch. The service was a little confusing at first with two servers looking after us but was attentive all the same. We were offered nice ice cold waters and weak tea to start. The beer was cold and the medium size saki was more than enough for two. Tried the pork gyozas which were tasty, but a little on the oily side. Also shared the MakI Tray "A" three ways. This assortment of 7 different rolls was great for the three of us, with a to go box. This was great deal and offered something for everyone. Definitely worth a return visit.
