Sun King Dim Sum

Went there today for the first time. After just finishing my first meal at home. I can honestly say it was worth it! Very good selection of frozen dim sum. I will be returning here again 100%. The owner was very nice and helpful. Highly recommended!

I've started purchasing my frozen dim sum here in the last year and been so enjoying it all! Everything that I've tried is absolutely delicious and of excellent quality. Good value and service has always been very friendly too. Highly recommend!

This frozen dimsum place is owned by one of Vancouver's old dimsum masters, The other being Gah Lok formerly known as Happy Family. The test of a dimsum maker is how he makes har gau shrimp dumplings and xiao long bao. Chef Vincent makes his hargau with bamboo shoots and the skin thinner than other places. It takes talent to do this without making a shell that disintegrates when steamed. Xiao long bao is also a challenge because it is filled with soup. The skin must be thick enough to keep the soup from leaking out, but not too thick to make it like ravioli. Cooking the hargau though requires a special technique or the thin skin will disintegrate. They must be defrosted in the ref overnight, then steamed with very high heat steam so the rice flour cooks and softens before the filling expands and tears it.

At first glance, it appears it's a hole in the wall store! And you know what, it is! It took me many, many years to visit this place. I went to this place when the pandemic started in March 2020. I wished I came sooner than later! The stuff you get at Dim Sum places, like Sui Mai, Har Gow, steamed buns, and so forth, you can likely pick this stuff here. At a fraction of the cost of what you get in the restaurant. The owner is a former chef at a local East Vancouver restaurant many moons ago and now works for himself and makes these delicious dim sum foods. When you go to the shop, the food items are in the glass refrigeration. And depending on the day and time, certain things are sold out. But don't despair, as I have now made a habit of calling in my order and asking when he thinks he will be ready for pickup. Either my wife or I will pick up at least ten Sui Mai packages at $7 each. My kids love this stuff, among other things. I can't remember if it is a cash-only business, but I think I do pay cash, as I don't want the small business to be spending the extra credit card fees on my behalf. How do you cook the frozen dumplings? We usually steam in a pot or steamer. For those who are not familiar with a steamer, one can grab a pot of water, fill it about half way of water, and use a metal stand for the plate or bowl to sit on perfect. The steam will cook the food in 15-20 minutes. Make sure you wear oven mitts to take the bowl or plate out of the pot or steamer. And enjoy!

Don't be fooled by the facade, this place has great dim sum and the staff are always lovely. As a vegetarian, it was great to find 4 different frozen options. Will definitely be returning regularly.

The variety isn't as good as it used to be but the guy running it is really nice and it's still great to be able to buy frozen dim sum to take home.

It sells the best frozen Dim Sum in Greater Vancouver, or even in North America. All taste better than those served in any restaurant, but you need to do the simplest cooking at home - steaming the frozen Dim Sum. Change to a good lifestyle today! Researches indicate that two activities at home more frequently are very helpful in keeping fit without much effort - cooking and brushing teeth.

Cute little frozen dim sum shop, absolutely amazing. Food is incredible and the staff working is always so kind.
