Story

The Star Grill is a full service restaurant and catering firm in operation since 1996. Located at 2069 Portage Avenue across from beautiful Assiniboine Park we offer brunch, lunch and dinner daily. Enjoy our weekly Mon thru Fri generous "early bird" breakfast or try our eggs Benedict, breakfast pizza or waffles to name a few options on our extensive brunch menu. Lunch offers daily specials as well as favourites such as our beet salad, Heaven burger and our home made black bean veggie burger with pineapple: try it with our home cut french fries. Many other lunch selections are also available. For dinner may we suggest starting off with our melt in your mouth, lemon pepper calamari or coconut encrusted shrimp with mango dip. Entrees include options for beef tenderloin, chicken, salmon, pickerel and pasta as well as vegetarian options all prepared with creativity and the freshest ingredients. Finish off your evening with one of our decadent desserts displayed in our pastry case

I went to Star Grill this evening around 4:00PM, from the time you enter the restaurant it feels very cozy. You’re greeted at the door with a smile and professionalism. We were seated immediately, after gaping through the menu, I was very pleased with their prices. It didn’t take long for our meals to be brought out. I collected my food faster here than if I went to Polo Park food court to wait for food. So at first I told myself the quality wouldn’t be very good. To my surprise my wife and myself were shocked and surprised, of how tasty their food taste. My personal opinion here has the most tastiest food I’ve ever had in Winnipeg. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. In between and after our meals, they would double and triple check that we were having the right experience. I will definitely be coming back to Star Grill again and again.

Arrived 5 minutes early for pickup. Was told to wait 5 minutes which turned into 15. Food wasn't even started being prepared until arrival. Place is understaffed and unsanitary. Server runs till, then dishes, serves food and preps plates without washing hands. Could see into kitchen and only one chef, he handled three different meats without washing his hands once or at all. Calamari was chewy like rubber from being overcooked. Steak was well done and tough. Ordered medium rare. Meal is exceptionally small for high price. Never eating here again. Better off to go down the street to the keg and get an exceptionally better meal for same price with better service. Place should be reviewed for being unsanitary.

This place used to be really good but I find that it has gone downhill in the last couple of years. I used to always get a nice pot of fancy loose leaf tea from here that was $5 a pot which I thought was reasonable for a full pot of tea. Went more recently and when I got tea it was a cheap tea bag in a mug and they still charged me $5 for it. Will most likely not be back.

Came in for breakfast with a fairly large group, was able to get a table quickly. Service was fast and friendly, food was delicious! Will definitely be back.
