St James The Apostle Anglican Church

About

St. Matthias and St James the Apostle's vision is to be a gathering place for the wider community and a hub for preparation for social activism.

Story

The Church of St Matthias & St. James the Apostle is an Anglican Church that is committed to living the gospel of inclusivity, restoration of peace and justice for all, and joyful engagement with all who do this work, both in the name of Jesus and with other sources of inspiration.

Our vision is to be a gathering place for the wider community and a hub for social activism.

We acknowledge that the land on which this church is built is the land traditionally used by the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe and Neutral People. We recognize the Mississaugas of the Credit as holding treaty rights on this territory. We also acknowledge the enduring presence and deep traditional knowledge and philosophies of the Indigenous People with whom we share this land and these waters.

Mission

Our vision is to be a gathering place for the wider community and a hub for preparation for social activism.

St James will always be my home church. I love it and always have. I was Christened as a babe and Confirmed when I was 12 and attended with my family until I moved away in 1988. My mother was a member of the Parish Guild and the Altar Guild. My sister was also a member of the Parish Guild until she passed away, Mrs Jeanne Leader. The Daughters of St James were the eldest group and then the Parish Guild and the Altar Guild My father was a member of the Anglican Brothers Group. The last time I visited St James was at the memorial service for my mother, Dorothy Mae Morris 1914 - 1998. I was told there was a brass plaque afixed somewhere therin but I have never seen it. Mr Meloche was the priest and married my sister and brother in law in June 1952 both are now gone Home. I attended Trinity Anglican in Cambridge but I moved again within the city and had no transportation. I was absent from any church for almost 16 years. I am nearly 70 now and recently I crossed the street to the Catholic church and began attending for the last few months. It isn't Anglican but it is a very close second. I ignore the parts of the Virgin Mary worship and I don't believe I need to confess to a Priest before I take the Eucharist. I am close to God and have followed the teachings of Jesus. I have the Holy Spirit inside of me and I am at peace about everything. When I looked up my beloved St James online I felt moved to write and express what a beautiful and solid a faith life it has given me. I have no family left now and don't go to Guelph. I like to know that St James is still there and it was so sweet and full of memories to see the photo shots. Bob Foote was the organist and I see he is still. Harry Dawson left and Dick Rokeby came. As long as I live I will never forget the image and the joy for the place where I first learned the love of Christ. Thank you for reading. Sincerely Meaghan-Margaret Evans
