Sprague Brook County Park

Story

Sprague Brook Park is a 974acre county park in the hamlet of Glenwood in Erie County, New York. It is operated by the Erie County Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry, and it is the only park managed by Erie County that offers overnight camping facilities. Access to the park is free and it is open year-round.HistoryMuch of the land that currently comprises Sprague Brook Park was obtained by Erie County in 1963 as part of a larger acquisition of 2200acres that also included parkland near Eighteen Mile Creek, Beeman Creek (near Clarence Center), and Larkin Woods (now Franklin Gulf Park). An additional 86acre of land was purchased by the county to expand Sprague Brook Park in 1964.FacilitiesSprague Brook Park has dedicated facilities for camping, baseball, softball and tennis. Several ponds offer opportunities for fishing, and a sledding hill is available for use during the winter. Trails for hiking and snowmobiling are found throughout the property. A 3mi groomed cross-country skiing loop and an associated warming shelter are maintained during the winter. Several shelters are located within the park and may be reserved for events and gatherings.

Most campsites are a decent size and have electric hook ups. There is a playground for the kiddos and a pond to fish in. No swimming in it though. There is a creek that runs through the state park which was nice for the kids to splash around in. Good for a local weekend get away.
The hiking trails weren't too difficult even for a very non-athletic person like me. If I can finish it, anyone can. Even a five year old kid finished before me. We saw snakes, lots of frogs, mushrooms, spiders, and etc.Very fun to hike as a group here. It was my second time hiking here, and I had fun on both occasions. Would probably return for camping one day.
Cozy and Adventurous! Stayed 2 nights accidentally paid for 3 nights online so be careful. Campsites are roomy on the electric sites, non electric are not too bad. Stick with the outer ring for more room as the interiors have more tree canopy coverage BUT tend to be close to your neighbors. Some sites accommodate more than 2 vehicles but the routine officer patrols quickly remind you of the rules and that they dont make them but they need to enforce them. Ample vistor parking close just around the bend so no worries there. LOVED the hiking; HATED the trail markers. Most of the trails had some form of signage but at least 10 times I had to gps my location to find out which fork to take. I would also take a path and then stumble across a sign board with the map. Had difficult time finding a trail map online or on the property but no problem finding a trail out here. "It's made by moutain bikers, but the trail is for everyone"...perhaps it should be marked a bit so it gets less confusing for those less adventurous who would mostly turn back fearing getting lost. I don't think you can ever get lost on a hike, just find somewhere new or forgotten ;-. Playgrounds for the kids, ponds for fishing, very nice veterans memorial on site.
Wonderful place to relax, hike or ride your bike!
Fat biking the rim trail here in winter or summer is amazing. Great for hiking, xc skiing, snow shoeing, camping, fishing. Bring your friends and get outside!!
Nice park. Lots of trails. Creek to play in. Play grounds for kids. Trails for hiking, biking and snowmobiling in winter.
Beautiful park with newly needed paved roads! Has a wonderful wooded walking trail and bike trail.
This is one of the nicest parks in WNY. Great for a hike, picnic, biking, camping, or anything else you want to do outdoors.
Beautiful scenery. Nice trail, but watch out for tree roots! Also, keep track of which trail you turn down. They are all marked the same.
Great hiking trails, nice camping loops, fishing, several playgrounds, great place to go in the fall with views of Kissing Bridge. Maybe Erie County's most underrated park.Playground: YesPublic restrooms: YesPicnic tables: YesBarbecue grills: Yes
