Southtown Bar & Restaurant

Carpet, a few tables (mine too), syrup container, menus, and bathroom floors were dirty. 8 customers were in the dining room, and already had food. The time from entrance to my meal put in front of me, 23-1/2 min. Over-easy eggs cooked perfect; hash browns bland, watery - browned top, barely warm inside. Pancakes: spongey, falling apart, with no flavor. Steak: medium, nickel-sized piece of fat, gristle-y. Steak knife dull, chewy edges of steak became mush as I sawed my way through. Total meal charges: coffee, $1.50. Entrée $9.95 for the #10 entrée = two eggs, 8 oz steak, hash browns and toast. A pancake instead of toast, $1.00. A separate side pancake, $2.50!! Total for the first check: $16.00. I asked the server about the different prices for a pancake. She said she'd ask her mom. After a few minutes, my server, empty handed, comes back out, and a moment later is followed by a lady, who has my meal ticket and credit card in hand. The lady did something on to the POS, then hands 3 things to my server. My server immediately brings them to my table, turns and leaves following the other lady. The new receipts show a total for the meal: $16.00 with tax, but no details. I'd just received a non-verbal, "pay up", explanation I guess. I finished my coffee, signed the receipt, and I got up to leave. Neither lady returned to my table from the back of the restaurant, with a verbal explanation, but as I walked out the front door my server was finally walking into the dining room from the back of the restaurant, empty handed. I had asked a quiet respectful question, I did NOT get any kind of VERBAL response. I won't go back by choice.

Went on a Monday night. Sat at the bar with a friend. Guy behind the bar looked like he was probably the owner. He was kind of crusty at first, but warmed up to us after we started talking to him. I got the pork sandwich, onion rings and a piece of broasted chicken. Broasted chicken was excellent. Same with the home made onion rings. Pork sandwich was huge, and pretty good. Needed mayo and maybe a little more seasoning. Pretty good overall. My friend got the reuben pizza which was also very good. Beats going to a chain restaurant for sure. Decent prices, good service and meals from scratch.

Great place for eats and drinks. Comfy atmosphere.
