A new local West Indian Caribbean sensation. This place has soul food from the island that will make you feel at home even if you've never been. I had the jerk chicken with rice and beans and this dish did not disappoint. The hot sauce is a banger full of scotch bonnet and mango? Homemade slaw was so full of flavor I might buy a gallon of it. Overall an awesome new restaurant in the area with amazing well priced food.
Amazing food! Southside Jerk brings a punch of flavour to your mouth. First time having oxtail, my mind was blown it was so good. Their chicken is worth traveling these treacherous Edmonton winter roads or you can just get delivery.
The steak sandwich is fantastic. You can taste the high quality of meat that's used. Every inch of the sandwich is seasoned and cooked to perfection. Staff was quite friendly as well. Overall an enjoyable experience.
This place has got "it." It's got the good stuff. Went with my father and had a fantastic feast of oxtail and jerk chicken. The oxtail is probably some of the best I've ever had, the meat falls off the bone, juicy and succulent. The rice and peas is flavourful and the perfect complimentary dish to the oxtail, and the pepper sauce is tasty too. I had one bite of my oxtail and was in love immediately, reminded me of the local restaurants back in Toronto. The jerk chicken was fantastic too, grilled and cooked the proper way and full of flavour. South Edmonton was crying out for some proper Caribbean food, and this place has delivered for sure. Easily top 5 restaurant in Edmonton already, and I'm gonna be a regular there from now on. Give them a visit for sure, support local eats and grab some excellent food.
If you've ever been to Jamaica or have had delicious Jamaica jerk, don't go here. There wasn't any rice and peas so I got white rice which was undercooked and crunchy. I asked for gluten free jerk chicken and was given oxtail sauce on the side which is not gluten free and is a prepackaged gravy mix. I was told this by the cook when I called to ask if it was gluten free or not. My chicken was nearly flavorless and taste like grilled chicken with no jerk flavors. I'm really disappointed because of all the 5 star reviews. Maybe it was a bad day at the restaurant, but we definitely won't be returning ever again.
I'm not even sure where to start. 1 the food is AMAZING 2 who I'm assuming was the owner, just as amazing! We had the jerk burger with garden salad. Huge salad portion. The burger was amazing and made to order! I also had a chickpea patty, I'll be back for another. We also had the jerk chicken with salad. Best jerk chicken we've had. Also tried a beef patty. Delicious. Finally we opted for an order of jerk chicken fried rice. I'm thankful we did because at this point we were full, but tried it. Best fried rice I've ever had. Can't wait to have it for lunch tomorrow! I will say... The food was 10/10, but only if you enjoy spicy food. I don't think I've ever had my scalp sweat before, and I'm not mad about!! Of course it could be because of the scotch bonnet pepper sauce... The best part... The prices!!! Check the place out! They also have an extensive catering menu and a jerk chicken family dinner pre-order only at this time. Support local! Update: came back and brought my cousin. Update reflects new dishes we tried, not all of the food we had. Fish special: my cousin loved it! Chicken curry patty: I'll be stocking up on their patties for quick easy lunches at work! Fish T spelling? Soup: my cousin bought us each a cup. I wasn't going to eat mine because I don't like fish. The owner was telling us how another regular came in and same as me, didn't even want to try it as he also doesn't like fish. They convinced him to give it a go. Well he came back later to say thank you. Seeing as how it was right there... I tried my cup. MIND BLOWN. It was delicious! I still don't like the texture of fish, but the flavour of the soup was amazing. My husband still doesn't believe me that what I ate was fish soup. Now I can't wait to try their beef soup!!
I just had to try Southside Jerk after my friend suggested and reading all of the Google reviews. It. Did. Not. Disappoint. The chicken soup was so good that I was salivating as soon as I removed the lid. Absolutely delicious. Had the jerk chicken which was really delicious. Will go back again to try my favorite oxtail. Also, it's really clean. Wishing nothing but success for this little gem of a restaurant.
Authentic taste. Jerk chicken was tender and tasty. We found the portions a bit small, especially when we ordered "large" and I'm not a big eater. My husband said it was a nice "snack" lol. The yellow hot sauce is deadly, watch out!
Good jerk chicken needs to taste of the smoke from the grill, heat from the peppers, a bold but balanced seasoning, and cooked without drying out. This place is one of the few that hits all those notes. Also handmade, fresh patties - flaky but not dry on the outside and moist on the inside. Make sure you get a side of oxtail gravy.
We used this restaurant to cater for my birthday. I absolutely love their Jerk chicken! It has that authentic smoked flavor which is hard to find in this city. I also absolutely love their peppered shrimp...mmmmmm! Everyday of the week they have a different special on as well, who doesn't love a good deal?!
