Relaxing, family oriented park with camping, store, beach, lake, clear water, swings and boat launches. Then for two weeks over the 4th of July the whole place turns into a huge college party. For warmer water and less crowds come in early August. If you want to have the beach entirely to yourself, come anytime between September 10 and June 10. The store has great ice cream options for those warm summer days - Michigan Potholes is my favorite. Bring a hooded sweatshirt because when you come out of the water you will feel chilled, especially as the sun is setting. And the sunsets over Higgins lake are spectacular!

You can't really ask for more from this sort of camping site. Very well maintained, well staffed, power at the sites, water at various intervals plus the shower/bathrooms, etc. Don't worry about picking a camping site far from the bathrooms to avoid a smell as that's just not a problem.
Don't worry about picking a spot on the outside of the subs because they're all the same distance from each other except for the extreme edges and those aren't worth the walk to the water or facilities. Just a grab a spot close to water/bathrooms and blend in.
The beach is excellent with slides and swings for the kids. There are trees right along the shore for shade, if you want, and the water is clear with a fairly shallow, slowly sloping sandy shelf going a good 100 yards. Perfect for kids.

Negatives: Too expensive, camp sites too close together, no water hook ups where we were located, inadequate lighting at night, long walk to restrooms.....also swim area looked inadequate for the number of campers.
Positives: Friendly staff, lovely woodsy atmosphere. Lake is scenic at sunset. Decent quiet time hours, easy access off I-75.

We made a day trip here to the dog beach. The lake is very clean and everyone is friendly. Our dogs had a great time playing in the water and with other dogs.

Great place for swimming with young children. Soft sand and clear, shallow water that goes out a long distance from shore.
