Soboya Sushi

This is the worst sushi I have ever had in a very long time. The spicy salmon roll was definitely not fresh, and did not taste great. The sesame seeds didn’t taste good either. The spicy mayo sauce on the sushi was garbage. The miso soup was awful. People that are giving this restaurant good reviews have definitely not had food anywhere good. I literally have to throw all of the food out and order something from somewhere else. What a waste of money.

Lovely place with nice staff and reasonable prices. Very good taste. However, sometimes with dine in, there can be really annoying and loud people so I would recommend the take out or quick meal but not if you are looking for a relaxing experience.

Judging by their website, nice pictures, and surprisingly good reviews, I was sure we found a great hit. Unfortunately I can swear that they gave us old food. Starting with the tempura was so dry and old, I believe cooked twice. Along with dry smelly chicken teriyaki, warm sushi rolls, and even their sunomo taste terrible. The miso soup was good and customer service was ok too. Too bad, they decided to give new customers reheated old food.

We were in Surrey this weekend for the Canada Cup Girls Fastball Tournament. As per any tournament there is an abundance of overpriced fast food available. We travel a lot so eating out is not much of a novelty for us, so our two main concerns are good value and clean ish food. As we are not familiar with Surrey we were searching for something not fast food, close to softball city and with decent pricing as traveling is expensive on its own, not to mention with kids. Our google maps search brought us to the Rokku Asian Cuisine Sushi and Grill restaurant. BEST FIND! We were happy to find sushi as it’s typically pretty clean eating but nervous once we saw the sign “under new management”. In our experience that usually points to the food not having been very good historically… We were pleasantly proven wrong. Upon entrance we were immediately greeted by a super clean dining room. That is a major plus. The server was extremely friendly, took our order in a timely fashion and came back regularly to refill our waters and check on us. The food – Ummm hello delicious! And a great value. Where can you get a 17 pc of fresh sushi for $8.99… Rokku, that’s where. This meal was so fresh tasting and the rolls were huge, made fresh right there in front of us. Doug had the bento box and hindsight was that I wish I had that. The bento box came with 8 sushi rolls , right, tempura sushi, salad and miso soup. The portion size was massive and the price was $10.99. There are designated parking spots in the lot beside the restaurant which is nice as we hate looking for parking especially in a town we’re not familiar with. We are so glad we gave Rokku Asian Cuisine Sushi and Grill restaurant a try as it was the best meal, by far, that we had all weekend and a refreshing switch from overpriced fast food. We will definitely go back next year when we are in town for the Canada Cup again- probably a few times! I suggest to the management that they market to the local events such as the Canada Cup as their prices are good and traveling families will likely line up for their prices and delicious eats!! Surprised at all the good reviews. It’s mediocre at best. Service was lovely and fast. Tempura was surprisingly amazing. Chicken teriyaki was decent, not much flavour in the sauce. The sprouts/cabbage slaw beneath the chicken wasn’t flavourful at all. The sushi was just bad. Rice was mushy, and the faux crab wasn’t even separated, that just screams laziness. Tray C lunch special was overall okay but nothing special.

My friend and I eat at this amazing restaurant once or twice a week. The food is amazing and the owners are so delightful. This is by far our favorite restaurant in Surrey and beyond.

Absolutely delicious Nabeyaki Udon along with delicious Salmon nigiri's I recommend this mom and pop shop to the locals and travellers who love sushi

Second time coming here for sushi. Came in and had a late night craving for salmon sashimi. New owners. Presentation for takeout order is good. Was hoping the 8 piece salmon sashimi was a bit bigger for the price. $13 and some change. If you're looking to just get sashimi. There's a place across the street called Il UK Jo. Besides that I haven't tried the sushi but I bet it's good. Will try next time and update review for this restaurant!

Excellent meal. My daughter actually tried Japanese food and loved it. I have always driven past this place, it’s a gem!

First time here, great service, owner is very polite and service is great, ordered some chicken teriyaki and cucumber roll sushi and it all tasted azing only gave it 4 stars because some pieces of the chicken tasted a bit under cooked. But great experience will be going there again.
