Nice japanese food with organic ingredients. The highlight is the sushi which is made with brown rice but still tastes delicious! Items had: - Vegetarian roll : Really good and delicious - Lotus root: Different than expected but still yummy! - vegetarian udon noodles : good but a tad sweet. I would skip these and just order more of the yummy sushi! - cauliflower tempura: great appetizer and definitely recommended. The service also was really good and our waitress kept checking on us to make sure we were happy. Definitely recommend this place to fulfill Japanese food cravings for vegetarians.
went here with my friend, food was incredible! nice quiet ambiance and excellent service. lots of great vegetarian options too, i got the geisha girls roll and i highly recommend. my friend got the dragon magic roll and she loved it as well. definitely would eat here again!
Stopped by for a quick bite for lunch downtown! The sushi is very healthy here as they use brown rice. It’s a bit on the pricier side compared to other cheaper sushi restaurants around town my two rolls cost about $15 but I always feel healthy and not rushed when I eat here. I got the dynamite roll and negitoro roll. The dynamite roll was tasty with the prawn tempura and loaded with lots of veggies. The negitoro roll tasted fresh but I expected the green onions mixed with the fish and not just added on top like a garnish.
Amazing take on whole food based sushi. Everything here is tailored to be as healthy as possible and they've knocked it out if the park. The vegan options are delicious, the vegetarian options are plentiful and the regular sushi options are locally sourced and focused on sustainability. This was asmlso the first sushi spot to offer only brown rice for all their sushi/Nigiri. Great place!
I respect how the restaurant offers brown rice as a standard in their sushi roll. There is a great vegetarian selection. The service is fair. The prices are a bit higher than any similar restaurant. I Would recommend the place for any picky eaters.
Great first experience at Shizenya! I really appreciate the restaurant offering brown rice as a standard in their sushi rolls salmon and tuna tasted fresh. Also had the Sockeye Salmon Carpaccio, which had a nice sear and tangy tataki sauce. My favourite dish was their vegetable pan-fried brown rice noodle we paid additional for the GF substitution. It had a nice selection of veg and the miso sauce was comforting and full of umami flavour! The service was attentive to re-filling our tea, and the server was nice to offer GF soy sauce after we ordered the GF sub for the udon dish! They also offered to clean their boards inside the kitchen to avoid cross-contamination, which says a lot about their care towards patrons and any dietary restrictions. Would highly recommend!
Ten stars out of five. After visiting this restaurant it is hard to go to any other because most other Japanese restaurants taste cheap and unhealthy. Maki sushi doesn’t get better than this. They have option to not use mayonnaise. I could substitute things in my maki rolls. They follow your instructions extremely carefully. The food was served fast. They use generous amount of filling. The wifi is secured. I can’t think of anything I would improve on!
Found Shizenya on Yelp and we came to here for breakfast because of the review and the price. The price turned out to be not much cheaper than other restaurants, but their ingredients seem healthy. We ordered an eggplant appetizer, chicken udon lunch combo, tuna nigiri and shiawase for dessert. The eggplant might be the best out on all, because the sauce was nice a bit too much. The udon flavor is a bit lacking and I think it might be because they are going for something really healthy. They used chicken breast in the udon and it's just chicken breast tastes like chicken breasts, nothing special although I've had really good chicken breast from Costco. The shiawase was misleading because on the menu it looks like jelly, but it's just pudding. The nice thing about the pudding is that it's vegan and made out of pumpkin. Overall the experience is okay. Healthy ingredients but I do expect slight better tasting food as I'm eating at the restaurant. It would be nice if they figured out how to really balance their sauce and flavor ex. Eggplant sauce and syrup for pudding was too much, udon is too bland. If you want to come here, I would recommend coming during lunch time and get the lunch combo special. It has more variety.
Enjoyed a nice dinner here with my kids. It was busy but were seated right away. Service was very good and the food was beautifully presented, fresh and delicious. I ordered the Ocean Quartet Sashimi Salad and Gomae. My daughter does not eat seafood and there were many vegetarian and "non-fish" options to choose from.
As a vegan, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. The yam tempura rolls and the pumpkin dessert is life changing. The miso udon is a little sweet but very flavourful. Really loved this place and hope to come back if I visit Vancouver again!
