Sensei Bar
"A Chef-Driven Bar where boozy cocktails flow to old-school beats, and a modern and rebellious take on Asian bites, serve up good times with mastery. Tucked away a stride from 17th Avenue’s nightlife, our intimate and urban space welcomes you all night and late-night. Our little-but-loud menu puts a boldly flavourful, yet nourishing spin on Korean and Taiwanese bites - all starring local ingredients and the beloved bao bun. Pair it with our curated cocktails and bow down to the bao with your inner Sensei."

Its a competitive future fine dine potential restaurant.. I know we do not have Michelin star restaurants here but I can see a possibility here. The chef was amazing and the service was one of the best. The Manager was making sure he is on the fine tune menu mode which I expect, positively thriving for the best restaurants. Salute the quality flowers used in cocktails and to the tiny mushrooms used in deep earth dishes. We could taste the forest and the uniqueness of the earth rich wow effects. Well done guys. We will be back soon with our picky friends and reviewers.
I go to Sensei regularly, I’m lucky enough to live down the street! The food is incredible, the quality is consistent, time and time again. They have a 10/10 cocktail list; my favourites are the Sake Creamsicle, and the Spicy Pineapple Margarita s/o to whomever created/curated the drinks. The staff are always super helpful, the service is always great! In addition to wonderful staff; it’s always nice to see the managing partner so involved in the day to day processes of the restaurant. His care and hands on approach really shows in the overall quality and experience. I would highly recommend Sensei bar, to anyone and everyone whether it’s for dinner, drinks, or both!
The most delicious food and incredible service. Every single plate we ordered was beautifully plated, more like art than a meal and tasted even better than it looked! We’re planning another trip back just for the cocktails alone, every one we tried was so complex and delightful. Can’t recommend it enough.
- - Sensei-tional Cocktails, Small Plates & Service - - I came here three times over a two week period. I wanted to try the majority of the menu and happy hour as well. The third time I dined at Sensei we started with the brussel sprouts and edamame hummus. The brussel sprouts were delicious and the hummus was an earthy, Japanese/Greek fusion inspiration with olives and blistered tomatoes. We tried the Sensei 75 as well as the Yuzu lemonade for cocktails. I’d tried the lemonade with lychee and lavender previously and it was fantastic each time. We then had pork, ebi, and tempura bao buns, I’d recommend trying each one. We finished with the lollipops and the truffle dumplings. The lollipop were more like chicken wings and were good however the truffle dumplings are an absolute must - they are Sensei-tional. I tried the fruit sake flight lavender, lychee, mandarin orange as our meal came to an end. They were quite sweet like juice but very delicious. The service was great on every occasion. We were even lucky enough to have Amane, the owner, come chat with us for a while as he recognized us from a couple of nights prior. I highly recommend this restaurant and am looking forward to working my way through the cocktail menu.
Unique menu that is well paired with some of Calgaries best and entertaining service. Feel taken care of as you take on a culinary experience. Choose from a outstanding variety of cocktails and a menu arrayed with flavors that keep sensei the top recommendation when it comes to brunch and late night experiences.
The photos look amazing to me and my bf loves drinks so we gave it a try and it was great! The wagyu tataki and gochujang drumette are must try, very flavorful and has a kick to it. The Chicken Confit Nao was good but the Little Mac Bao was meh to me, nothing special. We ordered the Cherry Duck and the flavor was great but it was over cooked, so hard and dry. Chef confirmed and took it off our bill. Drinks were good. Dessert was a great end to our night! Service is great although the food comes a little slow, but with that presentation, it's definitely worth waiting for. Would love to come back and try more!
We visited Sensei Bar for Valentine’s Day dinner date. We had some of the best dishes we ever tried. Chef Erin is so incredibly talented I am amazed at the flavour combinations she can come up with. She even makes Brussels sprouts taste delicious! I would recommend every single Bao flavour, all are made from scratch including the bread! All baos are unique and worth trying. Another favourites of ours were Truffle dumplings and kobocha squash as well as Bam Bam Shortrib but there really wasn’t anything that we ordered and didn’t enjoy. We received 5 star service from Mami who made sure we never had an empty glass in front of us and brought our food out in courses so we could savour every dish. She was always there when we needed something. Amane served us some delicious sake and made our night even more special. Overall it was a great experience and we will definitely be back!
We found Sensei in Calgary one night because we were having a Bao craving. So we just searched on Google Maps. We found a late night reservation at this little eclectic Asian fusion restaurant just outside of the hustle and bustle of 17th Ave. This was just a stopover on our way to the mountains from Edmonton. Alas, in the future this will become a prime destination. The food was beyond sensational. So much detail to presentation. And perhaps the best and freshest tasting Bao outside of Vancouver. Every dish was so tastefully delivered. And the service was upbeat and extremely friendly and helpful. We have talked about just driving to Calgary for another night of Bao indulgence. That's how good this place is. You won't regret it.
Great cocktails, delicious food, solid service, awesome playlist!! The only thing that I would recommend, is that if you’re over 5’6” and going there for more than just a quick cocktail and appie, request not to be seated at one of the low, round tables. It’s pretty uncomfortable. Food wise, we had the Brussel Sprouts, Waygu Tataki, Pork Belly and Ebi Prawn Baos, Duck Confit, and Bam Bam Shortribs. It was the best food all around that we’ve had in a long time and we are definitely “couples who dine out”. The “accoutrement” on the dishes was equally well thought out, delicious and fun to eat. We are super excited about this unique, delicious and classy addition to the neighborhood. Highly recommend!! The flowers have nothing to do with the restaurant . My hubs gave them to me right before we went out…awwwww…
Great experience. Service was amazing, the hostess was able to offer great suggestions and explain the menu very well. Food was amazing and the presentation was beautiful. Portion sizes were bigger than I thought so well worth the price. 10/10 would recommend!
