This friendly neighbourhood bistro, owned by John and Francina Kavanagh, will win a place in your heart ... a veritable treasure in your lifestyle at the beach. Click to read the Vancouver Sun's interview.

Dedication to sheer passionate invention, from scratch! Fresh organic herbs, pulled from the garden that day, enhance dishes prepared by John and Domonique and give a punch of flavour that speaks of real food. John smokes his own feta and makes his own smooth, rich paté, among many other delicacies, offering a uniqueness to his menu rarely found.

Many clients have been wondering where to find John Kavanagh after his Des Gitans days in New Westminister. John joined Wolfie's at White Rock Beach as Chef in '96. Two and a half years later he purchased Wolfie's, continued with his success and sold in '05 to become the new owner of Seahorse Grill in Crescent Beach!

I can't understand some of the bad reviews for the Seahorse Grill. We go often and the food is excellent. The place is small and we don't go for the rapid service but rather the experience of attentive wait staff and a meal prepared expertly and plated beautifully. We prefer to sit at the bar where we can watch the magic unfold in the very tiny kitchen where miracles unfold. Highly recommend!

Pretentious and overpriced. The restaurant itself is cute, but the food just okay, and the mixed drinks are awful With all the glowing reviews we dined here several times hoping it was just a bad night'- sadly not the case. We don' t mind spending money a great meal, but just making something expensive doesn't make it good.

An excellent little bistro down by the beach. Great service and care taken towards food allergies. Wonderful inventive dishes and good wine selection.

I've never written a review of a restaurant before. My philosophy in life tends to be if you've nothing good to say about something, then say nothing at all. Sadly though, here's why I'm writing this one... I have dined here a few times when it first opened. I thought the food was fine but not remarkable enough to go back on a regular basis even though it's in my neighbourhood. Years pass and I go with some friends. My meal was, once again, decent, and the overall atmosphere and service was good - it's a charming little place near the beach. Because of this, I took 3 people there last weekend and ordered the half rack of lamb special. When the bill came, the lamb ended up being $46. Oddly, everything on their menu is about $20 less than that so we honestly hadn't expected this at all. I was recently at a 1 Michelin star restaurant in London and my main course was less pricey. And it must be said, at that level of fine dining price, expectations are high. This was plain cooked lamb on a messy plateful of watery ratatouille with two or three undercooked boiled potatoes. Very disappointing. I emailed the restaurant and politely stated that the server should advise the guest of the price of the specials. I pointed out that another review on Yelp had made virtually exactly the same complaint as I was making so perhaps it was time they took note. I never received a reply. Poor business practice. I won't be back.
