We’ve been loyal customers at sea since first living in McKenzie, so over 10 years, and still make the drive and bring our friends and family. It’s the best fish and chips in the city… HOWEVER, today we came in with 10 people, we realize the space is small, but there was one table of 6 finishing up and the 12 other seats were available. She turned us away, and told us it was because there wouldn’t be space for other customers if they came in. We did have children with us, but I still don’t understand the logic. She did offer us the option to do takeout or come back in 20 minutes, but feel maybe she just didn’t want us there.
For the owners of this shop; After reading the reviews, I won't risk having a bad meal. The reviews seem to be consistent that the fish is thin cut, overly battered, over-priced and undercooked fries. I was really hoping to come here and try for myself as I love a good fish and chip place. With as many people reviewing the same issues, I won't spend $50 to find out one way or the other. Listen to your clientele and fix your issues
Nice and welcoming staff. Good interior makes you feel you are close to a lake. I finished my workout and decided to indulge myself with food. I ordered their Cod & chips, and Noris Beef burger. The wait time was not that long, around 10-15 minutes my food was ready. I got my Cod and Burger, I also asked additional mayo since I find the burger looking dry. Cod was good, a little bigger than the palm of my hand. The batter was good, not thick but crunchy. The slaw that came with the chips was normal, nothing special. The chips were good, and you'll know it's freshly cut and fried. Crunchy on the outside and soft inside. The burger is good but could be better, I take that their specialty is Fish and Chips but it's on the menu so I was hoping for their own take on a beefy burger. The beef patty was thick but a bit small compared to the bun. Nothing special with the burger. The service was great which really wants me to come back here and try other stuff. I'll be back here for sure! 10-28-2018 - Same friendly staff, good fish and chips with nicely cooked prawns. Thumbs up!
Amazing little spot on Mckenzie Towne’s High Street. Staff are very friendly, decor is fun canadian fishing village style. Great for kids but you’ll also be able to have a quiet conversation, and the food is great. The Sizzling River burger was an amazing Angus Beef patty with lots of flavour, coated in beautiful sauces and cheese. Fish and chips were also top notch, and the yam fries are nice and crispy! Highly recommend this place for a quick bite, a fun date, family night out or just something different!
Friendly service. Small fish portions I had the two piece were tasty but slightly heavy on the batter. Fries good but not as crispy as I personally like had asked for them extra crispy. Would be OK for a light lunch.
Used to love this place, gone way down hill lately, prices up, quality down. Never again. Awful. If you want decent fish n chips, pop to the fergus and bix just behind this place.
I had the two piece halibut and chip with slaw. It was delicious. The fryer grease was clearly fresh as everything had the bright not burnt taste. Little pricy at $23 for the portion received, but I for sure would eat here again.
I had one piece of haddock with the chowder as my side. Husband had two piece haddock and chips. Fish was pretty good. Crispy batter. Fries seemed decent. But for the love of God stop serving that chowder. Honestly inedible. Like wallpaper paste with an unpleasant overly fishy taste. Two bites and couldn't eat any more. Just awful. Although it wasn't as bad as many of the reviews say, I don't think we'll be back. Joey's is better.
Being from a British family from the east coast who used to work in a seafood store I have high expectations for my fish and chips!! Well sea meets them!!! The food tastes like home and the staff are kind and friendly and to go is even wrapped in newspaper just like home!!
Ordered through skip the dishes and its a great place for fish and chips. good portion sizes and love that they have deals.
