In the 1930’s Roland Saucier, a young pipe fitter, was promoted to a foreman position working for Noranda Mines. Roland was instrumental in working on a test site at the mine, one of the first in Canada constructed with the use of copper pipe and fittings.
Roland wanted more for his family and decided to take them to Sarnia, Ontario in 1942. After working briefly for a few construction companies in the area, Roland decided to construct his own plumbing business in 1943. “Saucier Plumbing” was established on Nelson Street in Sarnia. As Roland’s business flourished, he moved to 253 Ontario Street. A few years later, he moved again to 276 Ontario Street, calling his business “R Saucier Plumbing and Heating.”
Fresh out of school in 1967, Roland’s oldest son, Ernie joined his Father in the plumbing business and a second son, Raymond joined the family business in 1970. Roland did the selling and left the fieldwork to his sons. Roland passed away in 1992. Both sons were proud of what their father had accomplished and carried on serving the Sarnia area.
Some time later, a new building at 791 Ontario was built - the present location of “Saucier Plumbing and Heating Ltd.” Business expanded to include both residential and commercial forced-air heating and cooling and to hot water and steam heating.
