The location close to downtown Toronto is why we decided to try this course today as well got a deal for under $100 riding. The course itself is in good shape, well maintained and golf-cart food/beverage service is frequent. There is a washroom on the course as well. Greens are well maintained and most of the tee decks were good except for a couple under repairs. Golf carts are quiet electric. Only downside was we were waiting on almost every tee for the twosome in front of us 3 who were also waiting on a twosome in front of them to move along so they could tee off. It was a twosome in front of them so not sure why Marshall didn’t pair them up to keep the pace going, would have made the round more enjoyable for all. Will try again if I can get another deal and hope the pace is a little better. The proximity to downtown makes it one of the few worthy options.
I played this course on July 29th with a few colleagues for the first time. While expensive, we chose this course due to the location. Overall, it was a nice course. Very dry.. but so is everything. Bunkers could use some work - they pretty much sand pro everything greenside and it chews up the rough. Greens were the best part - rolled very true. Planes above are a bit unsettling. The reason for my two star review was my experience with one of the staff members - Victor. When I arrived at the course, I parked in one of the spots marked 'Reserved for Royal Woodbine Golf Course' ... I thought it was nice they set aside closer spots given it is also an event space. When I walked towards the first tee, Victor angrily approached me and in the rudest tone asked why did I park there, it was clearly marked for staff and I would need to move it immediately. I was speechless for the first 10 seconds. I couldn't believe someone could be so rude right out of the gate. You would think he was the owner of the course. It also doesn't say staff anywhere on the sign - check the picture. I tried to explain it was an honest mistake and my first time at the course and he proceeded to brush me off, wouldn't hear me out and walked away like a child throwing a tantrum. I was stunned. Totally ruined the first few holes for me. I'm not the type of person to expect bend over backwards customer service, but a little respect from staff for a $100+ round, especially when it was my first time out would be nice. As a side note... if what Victor says is true about staff parking being reserved.. very confusing. The reserved spots are the best in the lot. I worked at golf courses my entire youth and was always instructed to park away from the premium spots so they could be left for PAYING customers. I will not be back.
Great 18 hole course located minutes away from Downtown Toronto. Easily accessible by major highways. The course offers holes with varying degrees of difficulty which add to the overall great experience. A true hidden gem in Toronto.
Course is fine but playing behind a group of 5 people is terrible. Starter was rude and made for a truly disappointing experience. Won’t be back.
Second and last time playing Royal Woodbine. Tee'd off yesterday just before 6 p.m, and around 8:40p.m the Marshall tried to kick us off the course because it was getting "too dark out " and "the sun went down ". We were already on hole 16 so we wanted to finish the round, and did so. After 5 minutes of back and forth the Marshall finally gave up and drove off. Finished the round while it was still bright out. Took the picture below at the time the Marsall tried to kick us off. I've only been golfing for a few years but have never had this happen to me.
This course isn't worth the $130 price tag after tax. I understand it's a convenience thing but honestly, teeboxes are in rough shape, bunkers either had no sand or were mud, greens were decent. I'll way it can be a challenge though, lots of water in play with creeks and ponds protecting fairways and greens. Still at that price I don't think I'll be frequenting here any time soon.
Cool location and the course itself is nice, although a few tee boxes looked to be in rough shape, especially 9, it’s late in the season, whatever. The problem is we were waiting about 10 minutes per hole for the majority of the back 9… It started on the back to back par 3’s, 12 and 13 I believe… we arrived to the tee with the group in front of us still waiting to tee off, they actually had to wait another 5 mins before going off… for us, the full wait on that hole alone was close to 20 minutes. For $130 bucks you’d expect a better pace.
Played today. Greens in SPECTACULAR shape, tee boxes a little rough but can't expect perfection with all the rounds they pump through. Pace of play was great, love the course and the unique experience of planes flying over you..
Too expensive for the quality. Too many tee times booked and they get disorganized. I had to play with a 5sum and the course was so backed up we were still on the 4th hole fairway after an hour. Gold tee boxes are uneven. The par 3 over the water teebox was so uneven and downhill I had to club down for the right distance.
Surprised after NUMEROUS people have said their place is overpriced and management have read their customers reviews and said their customer feedback is the upmost importance to them, they continue to charge ridiculous green fees. You would think they would lower their prices after having a fully empty tee sheet while all other courses nearby are fully booked. No point having a good location when nobody wants to pay those crazy green fees. Golfers can drive 5-10 more for a course like lakeview that is half the price.
