I came here a year ago to get emergency surgery to remove my appendix. All the staff in every part of the process were lovely. The surgical assistant was very kind, and he made me laugh which helped a lot with the nerves. Dr Stevenson did a great job for the surgery. When I was back in my room, the nurses were incredibly sweet, saying "if you ever need anything at all like food or have questions, just press this button at any time!" It made a stressful situation a lot more easy to bare. I was only at the hospital for 1 night, and they made me feel so well taken care of. Tips: -bring a blanket from home, the hospital uses thin blankets because otherwise people steal them. -leave valuables at home. My friend told me that people will go from room to room stealing stuff. -don't expect to get any sleep at night, it's just how it is. That being said, I'd bring earbuds or headphones because some patients can be quite rude, talking loudly on the phone at night.
I went in on boxing day for a really bad hernia at 1pm, I had surgery by 2pm the following day. Every single person interacted with from the time I arrived there was excellent to deal with. I saw the caring way they treated some of the old confused patients and overheard difficult conversations with patients and family members while I had my overnight stay. Very impressed with the staff at RUH, thanks for everything!
The nurses in the Endoscopy division on the 5th floor went out of their way to make sure my husband's recovery from his procedure was complete before letting him go home. They were caring and very attentive. We appreciated them all very much.... Thank you!!!
Took my daughter to Emergency for abdominal and back pain on Friday morning. They did intake right away. She ended up being booked for surgery in the afternoon. She said everyone was very nice and professional the whole day. Thank you
I really hope there are still some decently caring individuals still working in this facility. Based on what I've experienced over the past few years, so much has changed and I've completely lost confidence in this Hospital. One family member went there with a bladder infection. Just because this one was advanced in age and had Parkinsons, they suggested not to treat and let nature take it's course! I was shocked to say the least. I refused, they treated but continued pushing their view. Our loved one recovered, was sitting up, feeding themself and chatting up a storm. The only issue was our loved one was not to be given liquids. The morning I was to take them home I arrived to have the nurse ask me to assist giving meds because our LO was resisting. As I entered their room it was immediately evident they were in serious pulmonary distress. Our LO told me the nurse is crazy and was forcibly shoving liquid and medicines down their throat. I told the nurse that there is an order in the chart that they're not to be given liquids and she just stood there stunned without answering. I asked for the doctor who looked shaken as well after finding out what happened. Everything went downhill from there with our loved one dying from the aspiration caused by this nurse. I won't comment on the treatment after this event which was abysmal. I've had another family member suffer aspiration at the hand of a nurse somewhere else and they received absolute perfection in treatment after the fact. So, in comparison RUH was horrible in that area as well. All along the whole ordeal, I was treated as the crazy relative who actually cared enough about their LO to ask for their bladder infection to be treated so they could return to enjoying their life. Instead one left in a body bag and the others severely psychologically damaged. Our other LO went to RUH ER and that was a gong show. The front line nurse was incredibly rude for no reason, we had just walked in. The staff in triage was incredibly unprofessional and there seemed to be a lot of them just sitting around laughing and well just...sitting. We didn't know the lay of the land for this newish part of the hospital and we didn't want to leave to explore as they couldn't tell us how long etc. Our sick and elderly LO had been there for 9 hours! They said they'd bring heart medication - they didn't. They said they'd bring a sandwich or toast or something as the patient hadn't eaten and was starting to shake - they didn't. They said our LO was due for bloodwork right away, we waited 2 hours and they never did come back. Earlier we were told it wasn't a stroke or heart attack so, after 9 hours we just walked out. This was a long, uncomfortable even for a non sick person wait for a frail elderly un-medicated patient. Interestingly, the persons coming in after us openly just demanding pain medication were treated and passed out in the lobby, waiting for a taxi, as we walked out.
The ER nurse that was on tonight in a red cap was completely unprofessional and heartless. There is now way a hospital staff member should be rude and ignorant to people. She purposely neglected to give any results or medication for hours. Luckily, a male RN came by and did her job in 10 minutes, with compassion and care I must add.
Hi. I have not had an overnite stay in a hospital since 1979. I am now 70 years old. I arrived home yesterday from a 5/6 day stay at RUH. I must say. It was a great learning experience. A high 5 to Laurie and Holly ambulance. Mike and Greg first responders The Nurses/Drs/Care workers were absolutely awesome. They were all kind, caring and friendly. I would like to thank the people in emergency and dept 5100 and 5200. A special thank you to Nurse Brandon on 5200 who I rate a 20. Lol. Thanks Brandon for your thoughtfulness and humor. Thanks to Roland on 5100. You are the best.!! Thank you to Dr Bud and Dr Uwe. Nurse McKenna. Marla on 5100 and Andy, Ena, Dr MarkTaylor, Brayden, Regina, Dr. Joy, Fugis, Marina, Steve, Kelly, Tommy, wonderful Jess, thank you for fixing my phone. And anyone I missed Thank you. wish can give 0 star was there at 12 and come back home at 5 with out seening any doctor . they said twice doc is coming but no one see me i am heart petient and had issue last night decided to visit to Emr but RUH staff and doc dont care about you they are all about money and was sitting doing nothing even some staff was sleeping . when they see an asian they never come a talk to you. like all other peteint treated well and go home what about me no one treated me because i have different skin color and i am asian?
Worst hospital in city. Sat 4 days with chest pain in hospital bed. Was treated rudely and nothing medically done. They needed my bed and had me leave. I would rather give -5 stars. If you have serious medical condition or heart attack avoid this hospital. They have no doctors just technicians. Old school doctors are not at this hospital just like old school mechanics are not in auto shops anymore. If machine can't tell them what's wrong they throw there hands in the Air and tell you to leave also they overdosed me on iv with morphine and had to administer narcan
Probably one of the worst hospitals experiences I've ever seen. Rude nurses, we had two nurse come through and both were the same rude and did not care at all about the patient. Every nurse and receptionist was on there phone and had to wait till they were done scrolling on social media as I could see what they were doing. This place has gone down hill. I'd take St Paul's over this place.
