Royal BC Museum

About

Since 1886 the Royal BC Museum has preserved and shared the human and natural histories of British Columbia.

Story

The Royal BC Museum Corporation is one of the foremost cultural institutions in the world. The museum was founded in 1886; the archives in 1894. In 2003 these two organizations integrated to become British Columbia's combined provincial museum and archives, collecting artifacts, documents and specimens of BC's natural and human history, safeguarding them for the future, and sharing them with the world.

Through research and education, we strive to broaden understanding about our province and inspire curiosity and wonder. We are passionate about sharing British Columbia's story with the millions of visitors who walk through our doors and explore our web site each year.

Our archives, exhibits and galleries change and grow as our understanding grows, and we endeavour to share our knowledge in original and exciting ways. Each exhibit and gallery tells important stories about British Columbia and provides an engaging and thought-provoking window on the province's past, present and future. Our archives provide a treasure trove of information for researchers and genealogists through the stories that are preserved here.

Overall, this is a beautiful museum. For tourists from WA state, if you have limited time and unless you like the exhibit they have currently. This could be a pass.nThey had the Stonehenge exhibit in which was interesting and informative. The rest of very similar to what you see in WA museums. Still a great experience, spent about a little over 2 hours here in total. They had an old town exhibit, 60s stuff on display, native exhibit, animal exhibit with taxidermy animals.
I recently visited the Royal BC Museum and was thoroughly impressed by the diverse and engaging exhibits. Among the highlights were the detailed displays about Stonehenge, which provided fascinating insights into its construction, distribution, and historical significance. I learned so much about this ancient marvel that I never knew before.nnThe museum also featured a captivating marine life exhibit, among many other interesting displays. Despite spending over three hours exploring, I was never bored for a moment. Each section offered something new and exciting to discover.nnAdditionally, I received a student discount, which saved me $10 off the regular admission price. This made the visit not only educational and enjoyable but also quite affordable. I highly recommend the Royal BC Museum to anyone looking for an enriching and memorable experience.
A large and very interesting museum, it’s breathtaking how alive the illustrations look. My friend and I had little time, so we skipped the educational recordings in the museum. But there was a lot of useful information there, for those who want to learn new things in the museum. Even if you are not a fan of museums, you should visit this one for the emotions and beautiful photographs
It's one of our favorite places to come to when we're in Victoria. This time Stone hedge was the main exhibit. We can in time for a guided tour. The tour guide was good at explaining the three phases of Stone hedge. The Old Town and the Natural exhibits were exceptional. You need to walk the way it was during the gold rush time and the forest and other nature exhibits. You feel like you are living through it yourselves. You will feel it, too!
One of my favourite museums! The natural history exhibit is amazing and there's plenty of staff to help answer questions. The museum and imax ticket combo is always the way to go which I think was around $37. I did this solo and would recommend checking it out even by yourself. Extremely accessible by bus.
