My dad and I took my uncle here for his birthday today, and we finally got to see the Hawaii Mars up close, and it's incredible. Our tour guide, Steve, was really friendly and knowledgeable about the airplanes we saw throughout the tour, and the gift shop was amazing it has all kinds of souvenirs, including Hawaii Mars merchandise and we all got Hawaii Mars t-shirts
This Aviation Museum is a gem and often overlooked as a great place to take kids and family, or recommend to tourists. You can easily spend a few hours absorbing the history of local aviation, Canadian Airforce, history and personalities that have flown, given service or simply been key factors in the changing landscape of flight in BC and Canada.nnThere are huge planes, historic planes, models of planes, mockups of planes, pieces of planes, displays of history, mechanics, personalities, models... You can touch some displays, climb into others, watch videos, play games, read histories.... There's a gift shop with a great library of books, decals, and memorabilia.nnBut the best part of the museum is the staff and volunteers; from all the people who volunteer during their open house in August, to the men and women who show up daily to work on restoring aircraft, give interesting tours or greet visitors at the entrance, they are all engaging and wonderful people who make the museum come alive.
What a gem! Went there with neutral expectations and was blown away with the number of planes and artifacts to see. The tour guides were very knowledgeable, one of wham was the actual pilot of one of the planes featured at the museum. A must see for aviation buffs!
This is an amazing faculty, run by some genuinely wonderful volunteers. I'm a big fan of aviation history and the BC Aviation Museum blew me away. Firstly their collection is vast, full of some incredibly unique machines. On top of that their volunteer staff is super knowledgable and dedicated, restoring planes from the river up. We were lucky enough to have a tour of the entire facility, including the restoration shop, and it was such a treat. Definitely come check this spot out, it is chock full of history, and interesting characters.
There is so much to see. This museum is so educational and very kid friendly. The volunteers are engaging and the kids and adults loved the aircraft tours and simulators. I hear a new plane will be coming later this year. Definitely worth multiple visits.
