About the River Market

River Market carries everything from soup to nuts, literally! We work hard to source local produce, eggs, honey, cheeses and artisanal breads to name a few. We are well known for our private label brands, Coffee aptly named “River Mud,” specialty jams and salsa’s. Old fashioned candy and gourmet chocolate bars, line our country interior shelves.

A forgetful camper won’t have to look too hard to find every camping provision one could ever need. The general store is flooded with everything from toys for the kids, jokes, puzzle books, water guns, home décor thoughtful gifts and cards, including all the basic staples you never thought you needed, but suddenly do!

We even carry live bait, trout worms, mealworms and night crawlers to name a few! The old time country beverage coolers stock everyday beer as well as hard to find IPA’s. In addition, the full service delicatessen serves homemade meals daily and carries a full line of fresh steak and meat options for the grilling season! If you want your cherry on top, you can have it too, as we offer a full service ice cream shop/window which serves old-fashioned homemade soft serve custard, as well as hard ice cream in 12 flavors.

Sitting right on the Delaware River on Scenic byway Route 97, surrounded by nature, the market is the epicenter of atmosphere and communal gatherings. Every Saturday during the summer, we host the Barryville Farmer’s Market.

Come visit us today and enjoy free Wifi. Even if you're in town for a quick visit, join our free Belly Rewards program, which is more than a coffee club. You'll earn rewards for any in store purchase and accumulate points towards future breakfast and lunch items.

Barryville is located in the southwest of Sullivan county, along the Delaware River on the border of Pennsylvania. Unlike other areas of Sullivan County, where access is primarily via Route 17, Barryville has a number of access options from New York City. In addition to Route 17 to Monticello (and then traveling southwest), you can also take I-84 west to Port Jervis and then NY 97 north along the Delaware River, or come up through New Jersey and Milford, PA directly into Barryville.

I had such a great experience here. My girlfriend and I drove to see hawks nest and we just kept going. We were hungry so we stopped. We got delicious sandwiches from the deli counter and were greeted with warm smiles by a couple that must own the place. We paroused the isles of fresh baked goods and local jams as well as a fun collection of toys and trinkets that were entertaining to look at. We got some coffee for the road, but if we had more time we would have grabbed a table to drink our coffee there by the fireplace. Stop in and you will be glad that you did.

Love this place. We stay in Eldred every year for our family vacation and the Market is always on our must visit list. So many treasures and cool things you can't find anywhere else.

As it's now been several months of drinking coffee here regularly, The coffee is a 16 oz. (bigger than most other places!). Their coffees are some of the best I have had, and I drink A LOT OF COFFEE! It's very robust and earthy and the same time, still nice and smooth. Great neighborhood shop!

UPDATE (May 2016): The owners asked that I update my review. After I left my initial review, the owners called me (I'm not clear on how they found my contact information but one of the owners responded, "I was a private-eye in a past life.") They defended their issues (the doors are broken because they were expensive to fix, they closed early because there weren't enough customers, etc.). They asked that I understand their issues and invited me to return and give them another chance. I eventually made my way back and have made a handful of purchases since. I've also left the store empty handed several times because items (drinks, bread) were out-of-stock. I visited the store most recently this month and the owners rather rudely announced I'd entered the store ("Oh, it's him, he came back! It's Tommy West!") shouting about me by name. They then asked that I update my review. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Suffers from "the only thing in the area" syndrome. A change in ownership has twisted this place drastically making everything inconsistent. Everything. From hours of operations (you'll find them closed when they should be open), prices at the register that don't match what's advertised, stale "fresh bakery" items and broken fixtures (the custom refrigerator doors need some repair). What was once a nice, local spot that set a standard for modern-country living has transformed into an eye-roll-inducing "convenience" store.

What a welcomed surprise! I stopped for a cup of coffee with my toddler and husband on our way for a family weekend, and wound up having a scone with my coffee, a few toys and snacks to keep my toddler happy, and my husband picked up some live bait! Had no idea this market was so awesome. And the food was good! And the coffee was perfect! Lovely setting. Lovely environment, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I've saved it on my GPS for the next time we head this way.
