Had lunch here to celebrate my uncle and sister’s birthday and it was really nice! The food was delicious and very satisfying. We loved the udon and the nigiri that we ordered! The staff was also super nice, our waitress was super sweet and made a nice dessert for the two and sang happy birthday! I’ve already recommended this place to a few friends! :
We had a great time here yesterday. The service was sweet, the food was good, and the presentation was just marvelous. We had two tasting menus plus grilled squid and skewers. It was just enough for two, I would probably throw in one more appetizer if you are very hungry. It was also easy to find street parking around, and it took us just an hour in and out.
What a hidden gem! Authentic Japanese sushi and small plates restaurant. Run by Japanese head chef and Japanese staff. The service was great and the chef even came to escort us out to the door! The quality of the fish for sashimi was above average and they even have fresh myoga on the sashimi set. Everything melted in our mouth and our favorites were the scallop, hamachi, salmon, and fatty tuna. Surprisingly, what stole the show was the Inaniwa ume udon! The broth was a different level of umami and the noodle's texture was a cross between typically udon and ramen noodle chewiness. The ume was a delightful contrast of flavor. We also enjoyed the chawamushi which had a crab gravy on top and the egg custard texture was silky smooth. However, it needs a tad bit more seasoning to enhance the delicateness. Overall, we enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back. Amazing food. Dont let the great appetizers hide that they have possibly the best and freshest sashimi and nigiri in this whole city. Wow! How are they not even more popular? This is such a great place that I will simply be visiting much more going forward. Thank you all for great Sake, food and service!
Food was so wonderful I brought my picky sister in law who typically dislikes Raw food and she was so delighted! Thumbs up from me and the family. Thank you chef I will be back very soon! Parking: Parking was convenient! Satisfied!
Great gem for Japanese with lovely service. The sushi was very fresh and some items like Uni and Hamachi collar were not on the menu so you need to ask. So happy that we asked because the Hamachi collar was very good. Prices are reasonable and decor inside was very modern.
Chef Hemmi always delivers, and the owners @ Ringo clearly know how to both source and sell good sashimi in Chicago - not an easy or inexpensive thing to do. The elegance and beauty of this spot is in its simplicity and directness - their focus is crystal clear and invested in the important things. Fresh, high quality ingredients being utilized to their best by an experienced chef; no frills, just good eats. Love this spot, so lucky to have it around! My favorite sushi spot in the city.
A fabulous place to eat! Owner Agnes Chua and Chef Hemmi are amazing and the food is fantastic. I would HIGHLY recommend this place as must visit when you are in the area.
Fantastic and calm experience! Came by with a friend and we were seated immediately. The servers never let our water get low, the food was delicious and the ambiance was perfect for a casual spot to enjoy a meal and chat. I ordered a dragon roll and they were able to customize it for me. Highly recommend the Tokyo chicken juicy dark meat and the green tea ice cream!
Came here on a Tuesday evening, and although it was fairly late 8:30pm it was very quiet, which usually isn't a great sign. After getting our food, I became very very puzzled why it wasn't super busy - it might be some of the best Japanese I've had in Chicago, and very affordable! Everything we had off the small plates was rather unique and very tasty, and the nigiri was top notch - very fresh and perfectly seasoned rice. Will definitely be back!
