Ramsey County Library - Maplewood

Maplewood Library is one of our top picks for libraries to visit when we're in a crunch. It's conveniently located next to Maplewood Mall and a McD's with a play place, which makes running errands a lot easier on any parent. The staff is always ready to help when we've been in need of it. In the kids' area there is a bus for kiddos to drive, farmer's market and food (best one we've run into yet!), kitchenette, pretend vegetable garden, pretend flower garden with felt flowers to manipulate, and a plastic "treehouse" with puppets inside. The cafe located in the library has been closed the last three times we've been there. The sign is ambiguous, but I'm sure it has closed permanently, as it was normally open regularly in the fall. Printing here costs much more than at other branches, although I can't figure out why (at .15/B&W page).

Not my favorite library - the selection is smaller than other libraries, the decor is straight out of the 70's (why?!,) and there are not nearly enough private and comfortable chairs for someone to quietly read a book in.

Staff won't do anything about the terrible children they have here. These kids will curse and flip other people off without batting an eye and whenever I mention it to staff they shrug, essentially saying "kids." I'm not old so it's not like I think the library should be quiet at all times, but they are risking alienating their entire patronage for the sake's of one group of poorly behaved children. That's not right!

This is the loudest library in the metro. It's overrun by very loud and obnoxious youths. If you need to study go somewhere else. ** Suggestion to the library: soundproof the YA area? Or demand that the kids not run around the library yelling?

Very nice building with a nice lay out and a nice view of a natural area. The nature area has paved trails for walking. There is also a coffee shop.
