Went for the first time today with friends. Overall we had a great experience. We found the ramen quite delicious and we are avid ramen fans who have definitely had ramen from just about everywhere in the KW area. I'd say this restaurant stacks up for sure. I've seen comments about the portion sizes. None of us could even finish ours and had to take the rest to go. I've attached a pic of the spicy miso ramen. Thanks Ramen Rebels for a great meal and excellent service.
Exceeded expectations! My partner and I love the taste of the ramen. Also the fried chicken from our dinner for 2 was so different from what I was expecting. Loved the spices on it! Partner ordered the wrong ramen and still loved it. We will 100% be going again and again and again.
We ordered the tonkotsu ramen and the shio both with an egg, but the order came out with both tonkotsu. We weren't sure if both orders were wrong, as the "chashu pork" seemed to be more like a ground/minced pork - similar to the "tantan". Upon confirming with the waiter if this was the correct order, she said yes that is what the chashu is supposed to look like. see photo for reference The ramen I would give a 5/10. - The noodles were good, they were chewy and not too soft. I only wish there were options for thin/thick noodles. 7/10 - The broth was very thick and heavy, and also salty. 5/10 - The ramen egg additional $2 was very good, however at other ramen places, an additional egg would only be ~50¢-$1. 8/10 - There were no vegetables in the ramen dish. Although it was clear that there weren't any from the menu, I wish there was corn or bean sprouts to balance the heavy flavour of the broth. bean sprouts would've been another $2, corn $1 - The ground pork was ok. I was expecting slices of chashu as it does mean japanese braised pork belly. 1/10 The dumplings were a 1/10. - They came out very soft and wet. We could barely pick it up with our chopsticks. The dough was very thin and the dumplings were not filled properly. - They resembled more as a wonton or soup dumpling as you'd have to slurp it up. Not fried like actual "gyoza" The service was an 7/10. - The server was very friendly and checked up on us frequently. - As it was their opening the server did a good job. - Our only complaint is the wrong order - though we should've double checked after. Overall i'm giving ramen rebels a 2 stars out of 5. The ramen was ok but quite pricey especially for students, the chashu pork was not what I expected, the dumplings were not good but the service was decent.
Ordered the shio, supersized miso tonkotsu, karaage, and extra eggs. It was okay. I learned about this spot on Reddit and really wanted to like it there aren't enough great ramen joints in the region, but very honestly, my SO and I neither liked nor disliked the order overall. In particular, we felt the karaage was very delicious, but the ramen... nothing special? Toppings were bare, but the single slice of chasu which was packed inside the broth was large, fatty, nicely rendered, and tasty. High delivery and service fees on Uber cut down the value substantially, so if we visit again, it'll be straight from the restaurant take out or dine in after covid eases up.
I would really appreciate if the photo attached to my comment would not be deleted any more. I was pretty excited to try out this new ramen place, as I tried pretty much all the rest ones in town. I’m a big fan of ramens and I cook them sometimes myself too. I think the ramen here is overly priced, I got the miso pork one at $13 or $14; to my surprise, my soup did not contain any bean sprouts or eggs as default, so basically my ramen bowl only had noodles, two fatty pieces of way thicker bacon, several slices of green onions; one part of the meat had bruising or color on, not sure what that was.... as the picture below. Any toppings else are for $1-2 which are even more pricy added together. The soup did not have miso flavour at all but heavy oil, and unmelted seasoning that’s how I felt in my mouth, and saw on the noodles according to my understanding. The decor of this place is really creative: wooden serving board craved with the restaurant name, and bowls with cartoon design again with the restaurant name. After trying the ramen, what made my ramen was so pricy; now I kind of understand after noticing the decor, bowls and etc. Don’t take me wrong, I have nothing against the decor or being creative, but I did not get the ramen; or maybe I get the Rebels but not the Ramen part. ‍Take care.
I had the miso ramen and the Tater tots appetizer. Omgggggggg I can’t describe how good everything was. The oyster mushrooms had their own flavor - I was expecting them to taste like the miso broth but they seemed to have a marinade of their own. I was so hungry and still only managed to get through 2/3 of the bowl. The Asian spin on tater tots is a must try !! Trust me. I’ve never had anything like it. The vibe is super chill and music is . Will be going back !
Each their own but to me this ain't a Miso Ramen. 14$ for for a half empty bowl with noodles that are hard and rubbery. Best of luck with your establishment.
Went yesterday to try it and was not let down in fact it was so good I went today as well. The Tan Tan is awesome if you like a light spicy zip with some toasted sesame flavours. Shoyu was more delicate but had a great rich soy flavour and the fried chicken is also on point. Quick service and super friendly. Great explanations about everything if you have questions. I'm going to start going through the list to find a favourite. As for some of the one star reviews I honestly can't wrap my head around "small portions, inauthentic, or bland". Portions are reasonable, flavours were great and "authentic ramen" is kind of funny considering it's the rebel of Japanese cuisine with the greatest variety and differences from traditional Japanese cuisine. I will be back on a regular basis.
Great service. The pork belly in the soup was the star. I enjoyed the Pork Bone Broth and fresh noodles. Modest heat with the Spicy Tonkotsu, nothing too crazy.
It was blistering cold outside when my husband and I came into Ramen Rebels for a bowl. We had been anticipating the opening of the restaurant for quite a long time and it did not disappoint! They have two veggie options on the menu which we requested to be vegan, as we are, and just wow. Both broths were so rich and different in flavour- they were so delicious, we couldn't decide which we liked more! It was the perfect place to warm up inside and out Cannot wait to take my dad here this coming week! 5 stars everyone, check it out!
