We arrived at 8pm for an event in the "barn" and were completely blown away by the charm and level of detail and attention paid to us by the staff and hosts. We decided to stay at the lodge last minute and were led to the most warm comfy and inviting room (along with a tasty late night snack). We woke up to a gorgeous slice of heaven on earth...backdrop of mountains trees nooks and crannies books and hammocks and tea and smiles. A lovely evening, day and experience.

I love this place and everything it stands for. It's comfortable, unpretentious and affordable. Breakfast in the lodge is a delight. Very welcoming staff and property.

A magical place with rustic charm, Race Brook Lodge offers a private setting ideal for a weekend retreat or an easy get away. The space for the retreat was a very cool barn structure with beautiful windows showing the natural landscape. It was a nice combination of rustic but well-constructed and modernized with a lot of charming touches. There was always water and tea for the attendees and there were enough bathroom facilities so everyone was comfortable. My room was very comfortable and charming. The pillows are really awesome. A couple of different sizes, I really like that. I found that staff to be really nice and charming. They were helpful and welcoming. The food was fantastic. It was very tasty and they offered fantastic vegetarian options which were delicious and plentiful. The Race Brook Lodge is on 100 acres of land and has a beautiful trail right on the property that climb up to a waterfall. The views from this trail are beautiful.

Would I stay there again? No, simply too overpriced for the poor accommodations. The good: Great staff, terrific breakfast and a great restaurant attached, clean rooms. I was there with other people, I saw three separate rooms. Our room was missing a smoke detector, the ring was there on the ceiling but the detector was missing. There was raw ferring strip wood in shower to "repair," the tub surround. The toilets are very old. The AC in each room looks to be VERY old, but the sketchy part was the haphazard wiring and extension cords in each room. It didn't feel safe. The heater also looked real old. Rustic refers to simple, plain and country, not run down, like these rooms. The bed was like sleeping on folded up cardboard. The pool had green algae 70% of it and looked unmaintained, my wife wouldn't use it. Please hire a competent maintenance man, pay him well, give him the tools and supplies he needs and this place could be great! If there is a maintenance man, which appears not, take away his big can of drywall screws, which are used for everything in each room. I challenge the owner to have a building inspector look over his rooms, with emphasis on the electrical and plumbing and post the findings. We paid 230 something a night and I felt a bit cheated. I wouldn't stay in any of the three rooms I saw again.

I was astonished at how bad this place was after having read the other reviews. Our room, #6, was below ground level at the back of the building, and we could hear everything going on in all directions from the room: people opening and closing doors above & next to us, people urinating in the toilet above us, people talking on the back porch about ten feet away from our door, which opened to the outside. Curtains were thin and did not block out light. I slept badly. The room was poorly maintained: the shower head did not spray, so it was like standing under a hose, the floor had been painted long ago but the paint was worn off in large spots, hole for elec. outlet in bathroom did not fully line up with outlet cover, bathroom door "stuck" on floor and would not open past a certain point, repurposed medicine chest door used as mirror was propped into place at an angle on the bathroom vanity and held in place by screws. The beds were too soft , but I guess some folks might like that. Two stars because: the people at reception were nice; property had a trail that looked nice (though with mosquitos for the quarter-mile I took it); quality, fluffy towels. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels of all levels in 40+ countries and am not that hard to please, but they should be embarrassed to be renting out the room we stayed in, especially for the price. We left after one night of a two-night reservation. I guess my gf was too embarrassed to ask for a refund when she checked out, but I would have.
