Dropped in to Purple Yum Cafe for lunch. The place was busy and it’s nice and clean. Ita Phillipino cuisine and it’s not easily apparent what’s what to a newcomer. My son ordered the hot dog. And I settled on the streaky bacon option as recommended by the hostess. We took a seat and about 5 minutes later the hostess advised there was no more streaky bacon. I asked for an alternate recommendation. She suggested the crispy pork belly. A few minutes and she was back again to advise that I owed another $4 dollars for the replacement meal for the one that she recommended and was not available. ??? So the ‘hot dog’ is served as three hot dog sausages with rice, two fried eggs and fresh tomato. The pork belly was the same. Overall tasty - but not spectacular. It’s good serve - and accompanied with Banana Sauce, not bad The milkshakes looked great. Will try them next time. 4 stars is fair.
Second time here, food reminds me of Lola’s cooking. First time we came the food had more flavour, garlic rice and Tocino were lacking a bit today but Longanisa was on point. They’ve changed the marinate in Tocino but said by next week they should have the proper marinate so definitely will be coming back. Ube Cake is amazing! The Halo Halo looks good, will try next time!
Value for money! Was blown away by the serving proportions - definitely wasn't expecting that much palabok for 16 Aud. Love that this bakery exists for those days when I'm craving for something close to Goldilocks or Red Ribbon. The menu is focused on Filipino breakfast comfort food and cakes. Wish they could add bangus belly to the menu but at the moment I like the simple, not overwhelming menu. Service was kind and fast as well. Love Purple Yum and will definitely keep coming back!
Silogs were so delicious as well as the palabok. Signature halo-halo was what I was craving for and was surely satisfied. Waiting time for the food was approx 10-15mins which isn't bad. Lots of parking at the back area of the shops, if only people know how to look at google maps properly. *toilet would definitely add a star*
Wonderful service & food. Best filo cafe / bakery in Melbourne. Halo halo & Tocino was absolutely delicious, garlic rice was perfection. Presentation was fantastic. Customer service was 10/10. Ended up buying extra snacks to take home & try. Will definitely be back! Thank you.
The longanisa dish was terrific. The garlic rice was perfectly made. They state that they open at 9am but their staff actually start at 9am. Wouldn’t it make sense that staff start earlier so they are prepared by opening time?
The place was very cozy and was able to find a spot to seat 6 people. I ate the chorizo meal from the All Day Breakfast section. It was very filling and they put lots of rice. Serving was a great size. The best thing I ate was the halo halo! SO DELICIOUS and refreshing. It was a big size and I loved the flan and ice cream on top! 10/10 Staff were friendly and helpful, plus the service was quick.
Our cravings were satisfied and homesickness cured.. worth the one hour drive from the north.. Thank you for the delicious food. I just wish there were other Filo bread like spanish bread, pandecoco, pandesal etc. and if you could add tinapa on the palabok, it would be perfect.. just a suggestion though..
I've passed this cute little bakery many times and this afternoon 15/11/2022 I finally got to try it. All the other pastries and cakes looked amazing and very tempting. The staff member working when I visited was very friendly and sweet. They recommended the bakery's signature cake, the Ube Macapuno cake. The cake slices were decently priced considering that they were rather big. As per the recommendation, I bought a slice of the ube cake and it was absolutely heavenly! I will definitely be back for another slice!
I came here for halo-halo, but it was awful. It was 90% red mung beans and white beans, which weren't pleasant to eat. I feel sorry for non-Filipinos who have tried this. They could believe that this is how halo-halo is intended to taste, but that isn't how it should. There were no bananas, nata de coco, or other OG halo halo ingredients. Leche flan was the only enjoyable ingredient about this dessert. Despite tasting artificial, ube jam and ice cream were acceptable.
