Phyllo Bar Melina's

About

Nous sommes un casse-croute à la grecque, spécialisé dans la pâte phyllo | We are a full service Phyllo Bar specializing in Spanakopita, Tyropita, Bougatsa and more.

Story

Phyllo Bar Melina's is a cozy snack counter, specializing in authentic Greek Phyllo pies (Spanakopita, Tyropita, Prassopita & Bougatsa). We can satisfy your savoury and sweet tooth with our wonderful selection and provide you with a dose of great caffeine!

Our idea was to have a small and welcoming space that emphasized great design and impeccable service. We wanted to pay homage to Greece's modern golden era between the 1950's and 1970's, a period when the nation was making great strides in film, music and literature.

During this period, many Greek people left their motherland and settled in places like Montreal and Toronto, bringing with them their culture and zest for life. In Montreal, they flocked towards Parc Avenue and quickly made it into a Little Greece. The street was bustling with tavernas, bouzouki bars and a beautiful theatre, the Rialto, which played films from their beloved homeland. Films from such icons as Melina Mercouri.

Melina Mercouri was an international icon born in Greece. She was an actress, philanthropist and the first female member of the Hellenic Parliament and later, Minister of Culture of Greece. During the military junta, Melina was stripped of her citizenship and became a political activist living in exile. She was also a vocal advocate for the return of the Parthenon Marbles, which were unrightfully removed from the country in the 19th century.

Looking for delicious Greek Spanakopita (Spinach Pie), Tyropita (Cheese Pie) or Bougatsa (Cream-Filled Phyllo) in Montreal? Head over to Phyllo Bar Mélina's, a unique place at 5733 Avenue du Parc (corner Bernard) Trust me, they are f..... delicious and Add a frappe coffee and you're all set :) I've known Joanna, the owner - (Yes she's Greek) since a kid but recently found out she owns this place :) Joanna & Staff are SUPER friendly. Happy to see childhood acquaintances do well :)

Melina's is the best place for pítes outside of Greece that probably exists in the city. They would've have gotten 5 stars but I only give 5 stars to my own family's matriarchs who roll their own phyllo. But good enough for second place.

Love the espresso, and their version of iced coffee! But I keep coming back for the spanakopita. Plus the staff always put a smile on my face. Melina's is a Mile End institution.

First place to go to on a sunny Sunday morning in Montreal. Flaky, crispy on the outside, warm and scrumptious on the inside, are these savoury pastry treats. Just like my mother's handmade börek with cheese filling, or spinach and cheese. Next, with excellent coffee, is the cinnamon and custard explosion of bougatsa, for the breakfast sweet tooth in you. Compliments to the bakers and staff. Bravo! 🍀🍴⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☕️
