I was there last week and enjoyed the lovely fall views. It’s an ideal place for a short stop and a pleasant walk during a long drive.
Nice place to visit for engineering lover. It’s a master piece. They says it’s worlds highest hydraulic lift lock and oldest as well.nYou can take cruise ride as well if you want the lift experience, cruise will cover two locks and it takes 3 hours of ride.nYou can visit the lock and look from outside as well. Recommended to have both the experience. It may take 3-5 hours to cover this place.
Visiting the Peterborough Lift Lock was an awesome experience for our family. My 12-year-old was absolutely fascinated by the concept of the hydraulic lift lock—it’s incredible to see such engineering in action. The cruise captain was extremely cordial and humble, taking the time to explain how the system works, which made the experience even more educational and engaging. The canal journey itself was a delight, with beautiful scenic views all around. It's a perfect outing for both learning and enjoying the natural beauty of the area. Highly recommended!
An amazing experience. We arrived just as boats were going through. Fascinating and bigger than life. It would not have been the same experience without seeing it in action. You can walk the stairs on the top side and on the lower side to get a close up look at all of the action. There is a lovely park with benches situated facing the waterway that encourages lingering to watch the boats as they go through the lock.
Excellent place to visit while you are visiting Peterborough, it’s a must seen place. There are plenty of trails and picnic areas around it. It’s amazing place all year around and from there you can make your way to visit museum and enjoy beach. Plenty of areas to explore and enjoy little lake.
