Peter's Your Independent Grocer

My friend popped in after a long day and the store was pretty much empty. Since no one was around, he opted for the 1-12 express lane with 15 items in his basket. The teller started a big public row over the 3 items and he couldn't believe it. The last thing anyone wants to deal with is a rude, arrogant, entitled employee who obviously felt too lazy to ring his items through. If it had been busy, that's understandable. It was not busy and the teller was standing around doing nothing at the time. No wonder this store is vacant.

I did a small shop here yesterday. I’m still healing from multiple bone fractures. I went to customer service as the cashier was just standing there and I also wanted cash back. All the staff are wonderful here. However this one was complaining to me that I shouldn’t be here. That I should be standing in line and wait my turn. with only one check out opened Never should customers feel guilty for supporting a business. I actually walked out wondering if I’ll ever go back when I’m a burden on the employees. They closed at 10:00 PM and it was only 9:15 PM. I don’t know what her problem was. So sorry if she found it so difficult to be there to do her job.

When I first moved here in 2020, and was trying to figure out where this was, the locals had no idea it was called "Pete's" or "Independent Grocer". People usually say "The IGA in Capri Mall" so it was very hard to know if I was headed the right way walking. I suggest changing the title. This place has a 2 aisle pharmacy section, lots of vitamins, but not as many pharmacy items, probably because there's a pharmacy across Gordon. It is good for freezer food, no name and PC brands. Also good for boxed cereal, and has an aisle with pet food. Dairy and Dairy alternatives are plentiful. The reason I give it 3.5 stars is that the produce department, lacks freshness quality year round, and has a deli instead of an in-house bakery.

Peter is often seen stocking shelves in his own store. He's got a great sense of humour and is all about doing the best he can for the community. He tries to bring in as many locally made products as he can to support other local businesses. Also he tries to avoid raising prices when others are doing it.

The attendants at the self checkout are trained to hover and get in your personal space, therefore defeating the purpose of the self checkout. They will get within inches of you to grab or adjust your grocery basket, or start talking to you while you attempt to read the screen. I've literally never had this happen anywhere else with self checkouts, so I don't understand why they are trained this way. Not neurodivergent friendly.

I find going to the Independent Grocery Store very pleasant Everytime i go there. I am a First Nations person and I've Never once encountered any racial, or discriminatory experience, so i really enjoy my shopping there on a steady basis

I have been shopping here for years. The store is always clean and the shelves are stocked, organized and tidy. Staff is usually quite friendly and helpful too.

Great grocery store staff are amazing and the veggies and fruit are always looked after by staff. I feel like they try to always have the best selection for the price we get it at... Always has my coffee creamer and coffee so this is a very happy mom! and the staff did I mention them... they are clean and polite and very helpful.

Great selection of local items. Great store and the owner is one of a kind! When you shop here you're helping the community.

Clean store, great location. Love the international isle and the extremely helpful employees that go above and beyond to help a customer. Will be a repeat customer.
