One of my favorite neighborhood hikes! The nature viewing is incredible and there is always that chance you'll see Bald Eagles. Try the little diner nearby too, good fuel for these amazing (and moderately difficult) trails!

Fantastic gem of a park. Picnic tables, public bathrooms, easy hiking trails with great views of the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers. Kayak launch. There is a pavilion with BBQ that can be booked. There are high cliffs with steep drops along the "Perimeter Trail" without rails or fences, so I would keep the toddlers very close, or off the trail. That said the cliffs do offer great views where you can peer down into the Mohawk and see large fish ambling about in the water. The park includes a few earthen works from the Revolutionary War and is home to a former "bleachery," now home of the New York State Historic Preservation Office. A great bridge walk across the river will put you in Waterford and Lock #2, home of a visitor welcome center and port for the Erie Canal.

A little secret hiding away on Cohoes Island. It has a pavilion with bathrooms, and picnic tables. There are also walking trails all the way around the island. Spectacular views of the river.

This was a wonderful park a local friend took me to. Absolutely stunning views from the various trails you can walk. (Which aren't terribly challenging, so long as you don't mind sometimes having to walk up hills.) I can't wait to go back!

The actual trail part is a great place to jog with a dog, trails clearly marked, great shale and dirt texture for the knee joints. The water flow around the island is interesting to try to figure out.
