Parliament of Canada

Story

The Library of Parliament is the main information repository and research resource for the Parliament of Canada. The main branch of the library sits at the rear of the Centre Block on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario, and is the last untouched part of that larger building's original incarnation after it burned down in 1916. The library has been augmented and renovated a number of times since its construction in 1876, the last between 2002 and 2006, though the form and decor remain essentially authentic. The building today serves as a Canadian icon, and appears on the obverse of the Canadian ten-dollar bill. The library is overseen by the Parliamentary Librarian of Canada and an associate or assistant librarian. The Canadian Parliamentary Poet Laureate and the Parliamentary Budget Officer are also considered to be officers of the library.

The tour was great and there was a lot of cool stuff to see. The Peace Tower was very neat with the names of the Canadian soldiers who died in the world wars. Although you couldn’t go in to see the House of Commons except through a window, they allowed us to walk through the Senate and to view the royal throne.

Nice place to visit, the tour is great, we had a good time here with my family. I always take a walk around the gardens when I am in town for work. There are a number of Statues to see, and it feels like a significant part of Canada!

This is an awesome place to go as a Canadian. There are different tours for each block of parliment. I would recommend showing up early to pick up the tour ticket at the building across from parliment hill. They let you go into the house of Commons and the senate to listen to the politicians debate. They do have a strict coat and cell phone policy which restricts you from bringing it in. This is one of the most icon places in Canada.

This is a fantastic place to visit and the building is a remarkable venue. We did a tour in French as the English tours had sold out which was disappointing. Make sure you get there early to get an English tour as they run equal amounts of both.
