Great place to eat! The Asian ladies are cheerful and friendly, and the food is delicious. It does gets warm in here during summer and I've once had a harvestman crawl under my table for a substantial period of time, but otherwise, a fantastic diner.
Oh what a unique little hole in the wall. I had heard about this place a few months ago and have wanted to go ever since, so finally my birthday came and my partner and i went for a late lunch/early dinner. I had been craving Salisbury steak, but ended up going with bacon and eggs with an orange ice cream float. I just can't pass up bacon and eggs over easy from a greasy spoon diner. My partner had the Salisbury steak and a coke ice cream float. The food was absolutely amazing, it was just the right amount of greasy, it was perfect. And having an ice cream float brought back memories of my childhood, so long ago. The timeless decor, frozen since the 70's, so cool to see, also reminded me of my childhood. Not that I'm a child of the 70's, but I did grow up in the 80's so I certainly remember diners and restaurants with decor from that era. Everything seemed original, which is unheard of nowadays. I highly recommend this place, though the hours are a little wonky, only being open until 5pm on most days, and closed on Sundays. W/we definitely plan multiple return trips, must try the roast beef and roast turkey, and of course i need my Salisbury steak!
Looking for a simple breakfast, I went back to the Parkcrest Diner after more than 30 years since my last visit in the 80's. It's like time has stood still. Everything almost identical and reminiscent of the old school 50's diners. Mixed menu featuring classic breakfasts and other basics including Cantonese style lunch specials. Good prices, very clean and super retro. Highly recommended.
Old school diner with nice classic diner decor. My burger was delicious and crinkle cut fries were a bonus! You don't see them enough in restaurants any more. Top it off with a side of Gravy and you're set. Definitely will be back!
Absolutely great family run diner with great breakfast at reasonable prices! Very friendly service and helpful staff. Will be coming back!!
Like a lot of other patrons who posted their reviews. I totally agreed with the retro aspects of this place, just for that fact, one should try this place at least once to decide whether one will come again. I for one will come back for sure since it is within walking distance to my home anyway. The food surprisingly is very good consider it is run by a husband and wife team. The wife is amazing as she does everything from taking orders to serving and busing and still find time to wash the dishes into the kitchen. I think her husband cook got the easier job, he just have to cook! The coffee is strong the way I like them and served in the old fashioned unbreakable ceramic cup that I haven't seen in decades. Ham and eggs breakfast is adequate and tasty. Nothing fancy here just your old reliable chow. The price also reflected that as breakfast for three comes to just over $30 including coffees.
I decided to go here today. It is a mid-century marvel in the heart of North Burnaby. It is an amazing. It should be protected for future generations in my opinion. Lovely staff, very friendly. Food? Well, it is the type of home-style fare that you would have got back in the day. Nothing fancy. Basic, I guess. Still, I ate all of my gravy covered schnitzel. Make of that what you will. A treasure worth preserving.
The ParkCrest Diner has been at this mini mall on Broadway for decades. I drove by it this morning and decided to give it a try. Of course one has to take into account that seating is limited at this time due to the Covid pandemic. Well, I ordered the breakfast with a slight modification because I really wanted the salisbury steak with hash browns but they weren't willing to budge from the set-menu and give me hash browns instead of the mashed potatoes or fries; so, that was my first so-called red flag. It wasn't fast food nor was it good food. The coffee was utterly bland, like it had been strained through a filter all night long, a cup of coffee without any strength is like drinking coloured water thumbs down. I didn't take a pic of the food because it's not appetizing. I found the food just as bland, the only tasty part of the meal was the maple bacon. If you're not worried about tasty food, then you might might enjoy the ambiance. Prices are not competitive for the quality, so it's worth going elsewhere.
It is like a bit of a time machine as it is very much a basic diner that are a dying breed. Great place if you are simply looking for decent food and not something fancy. I had the Special Club house sandwiche, turkey, ham, bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomato. I wasn't a fan of the processed cheese in it but I can't complain consider the price.
What a hidden gem! The restaurant is clean, the service was great I never had to ask for a top up on my coffee, the waitress was on top of everything the booths are comfortable, quick service and best of all the food is delicious! As an added bonus their prices are very reasonable.
