Short hikes and easy access to some beautiful land formations. Get there in the morning for nice warm light that really brings out the colors of the Painted Hills. Camping in the nearby city of Mitchell is easy - they have a city park with flush toilets and running water where you can camp for not a lot of $$.

A really cool place to visit! The Painted Hills are awesome to see! Be prepared for some intense heat in the summer though!

Multi-colored mountains! This is truly a site to see. Even though this is part of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, don't expect to see any fossils.

Follow this trail for more views of the Painted Hills. There is 100 feet of elevation gain and 1/2 mile round trip. Best time to visit : after 4 PM with sunlight and the color of the hill changes during the sun set.
