Public service at its WORSE! 60+ people in wait-line; only 1-2 person at the counter. Very slow service. Bring an iPad with extra battery packs because you will be waiting minimum 3 hours. Arrived at 7:30am before opening, left at 11:15am !!! This place is a shame for human dignity. There are maybe 10 chairs for 60+ people. People are literally seating on the floor. The waiting line goes to outside of the building. Some people are waiting under the rain because the waiting room is too small. Wondering where the tax money goes to get such a poor public service... The whole city of Ottawa and Gatineau goes to this only police office for their police check record. A complete non sense. Why let one place make all the processing? Why not do it in the other police stations to spread the work load? Very bad management. The worst is that it cost $50, a racket!
After waiting 3 months for an appointment, I came in expecting frustrating bureaucracy and was out in 15 minutes with what I came for. Pretty happy overall! Would highly recommend coming right at the start of your appointed time bracket, because there was a bit of a line by the time I left. Took off one star because the number provided has no reps to speak to about vulnerable sector checks, it's all automated. The status check on the website was also unclear.
You might get lucky - I did. I had done online Vulnerable sector check but got a letter saying I needed fingerprints. Heeding the warnings I go there just after opening on a Thursday morning. All 3 tellers were open. Took 30 minutes to get it done. Staff were very courteous and efficient. Generally pleasant. The entrance door is not well marked -its by the handicap spots and the waiting area is small, with just a few chairs, as is the parking area. I can see it becoming a zoo if they get a bit behind...Hours for different services vary, attached is latest as of November 2018
My wife and I were not able to finish our application for Level 3 security check online Vulnerable Sector Check regarding volunteer work, which made us shiver since we saw a great volume of awful reviews on-line regarding in-person services wait times. I was so scared with the online reviews claiming 4h waiting lines that we were among the 10 first people there in the morning. I guess we were very lucky that day for we spent less than 15min inside the station to get both our applications on the way. My wife was able to speed up her process considerably by starting the application online and was the second person called to the counter. So try going as far online as you can. I had to wait a little longer, but not that much. Our experience differed much from what we expected according reviews, based on that I will give it a 5 star review for now since we were treated very kindly by the lady at the counter and things worked out smoothly. BUT I have the feeling it was a lucky shot. Keep in mind we got there as soon as it opened and it was -23 outside feeling like -34, so I guess people were not in the mood to wait in line freezing at the parking lot at 7:30 Monday morning, that maybe led to less people on the wait today. There were about 15 seats and room for maybe 40 people inside and by the time we got out all seats were already taken and there was only 1 of 3 counters open, so I believe the reviews saying that the waiting time can be cruel. Do what you can to get your application on-line, contact the support via e-mail if you need to.
Only has 3 counters and 12 waiting chairs, sometimes get crowded but the best time to get there and not spend long waiting time is between Tue and Thrusday and to even make it faster u must fill the form and pay online. I was there on Tue between 12-13 PM and I waited Only 10 min to be called by the counter which was quiet faster. I think if you know when is the best time then u won't get stuck there in the queue. IF YOU HAVE APPLIED ONLINE YOU WILL BE SERVED FASTER THAN OTHERS.
My experience was great this past Thursday afternoon Nov 15. Was going in to provide fingerprints for vulnerable sector check and based on the reviews I read was expecting delays, etc. I was however pleasantly surprised. It was a fairly straight forward efficient operation. I was impressed with the attentiveness and assistance of the gentleman at counter number 2. I waited a few minutes and went in to have prints taken. That fellow was very polite and helpful as well. I was given option of waiting the 20 mins for the results or I could receive later by e-mail. I chose the later and had the results in my in box when I got home. I know others were there for different and maybe more complicated reasons, but for me this was a great experience. Well done folks!
I had to come twice to confirm an online police record check. I had to come in to confirm my id after an online registration. Why make the online form an option if it doesn't work? It didn't work for my wife and while I waited for an hour I heard other people come in for the same reason. First time I came in they had 1 queue open and the room was packed . The second time they had theth queues open but they never simultaneously were open. The room was full and they managed to serve 1 person every 5- 10 minutes. At one time three staff were standing behind the glass looking at the lady's phone and laughing together. This station is incredibly inefficient and slow! I used to go to the Orleans station and never had a problem .Something needs to be fixed here.
Apparently these servants of evil are ready to follow orders right down the road to a dystopian dictatorship ran by a megalomaniacal former English teacher. The fellows and ladies are ready and willing to violate human rights of the folk they are sworn to serve and protect. Sad.
If you want a fast process, go in the morning, the later you go the more people which means the longer you have to wait. Had an awesome fast first experience for a record check and only waited 10 minutes and only took about 5 minutes or less to get my record check. Went on a Wednesday at 9:00 in the morning.
I'm writing this as we are STILL waiting-after 3 HOURS-to be seen by a teller. Long lines out the door. They don't even let you in if there are a certain amount of people in the building aka expect to be cold and tired from standing outside. And when you finally get inside after waiting an hour outside, you get to stand because there are a lack of chairs! This is unacceptable, especially from a government service. Oh, and I forgot to mention, their website is wrong. Make sure you bring in 2 pieces of valid photo ID with your birthdays and photos of you. Not a fun day
