I’m staying in Orillia for a few weeks for training and using The center as a bit of a home base to spend my time and I’m so impressed with how amazing it is for the size of the city! Thank you Jordan for your help at the front desk great guy !
Save yourself the hassle. Overpriced for non residents even though we live 7 mins. The gym is small, crowded, not enough machines and weights. They have the land to expand but that won't happen anytime soon. For 640$/year. Find somewhere else. The locker rooms are small and crowded and blast from the past with high-school lockers so a fullsize gym is a headache to deal with. Also the showers are dirty, the shower heads are mostly blocked and stalls have mold. Staff do not pass by there too often. Imagine trying to change and the floor is dirty, hair and whatever else... they say scent free zone but 8 of ten wear something, whoever designed the gym, lockers etc was thinking not very far in future. They don't give too much options just to join the gym so you have to buy a full membership. Everyday the parking lot is full. Time to expand but the mayor is too busy focusing on raises, getting more land from other townships so he can be the big guy. Had a conversation with him, at least I tried to but he is absolutely arrogant and king of the hill. You would think that with the amount of taxes generated the city would look better. Glad I'll be leaving this summer. WHAT GYM CLOSES AT 6PM????
My rating would have been a 1 * had it not been for the excellent front desk personnel I've encountered over the years. However, the young man at the front desk on Sunday 11 January, 2026 around 3:30pm showed a clear lack of training on how to engage with guests. I walked up to ask two simple questions and during the entire time he failed to make eye contact even once, he sat slouched in his chair, and his voice projected a total lack of interest in what he was doing, or saying. I know the Rec Centre can do better than this...
As members of the Rouge Valley Life saving club, it is my first time coming to this Orillia Recreation centre for their life saving competition event. This is the first time Orillia Life saving club is hosting this event and the facility looks great! The pool has a nice viewing gallery, the main pool looks to be in great shape and there is also a shallow pool that I am sure the community can enjoy.nnAs a visitor for the first time, I get to see that have an amazing basketball court, the upstairs area has a full set of gym equipments along with a decent sized indoor running & walking track. These will be put to good use during the winter.nnWe got a nice crowd on hand supporting the 6 to 18 years old competitors from across southern Ontario. these are all our future lifeguards and they all had an amazing day of competition here in Orillia. I am looking forward to coming here again in the future.
Swimming - find somewhere else.nnUnfortunately, this program felt more like a revenue generator than a child-centred learning experience. Fees were collected consistently, but the instructor skills varied greatly. No way to know who the instructor is when you’re signing up. when concerns were raised about our child’s experience the lack of skill of the instructor and lack of progress, there was no meaningful follow-up or effort to resolve the issues.nnInstead of working collaboratively to address concerns or adjust instruction, communication tapered off and the problems were effectively ignored. There was no accountability, no clear plan forward, and no sense that outcomes mattered once payment had been received.nnSwimming is an essential life skill, and families should not feel like they are paying repeatedly without support, responsiveness, or results. I hope the centre reflects on how it balances revenue with genuine instruction, follow-up, and family communication.
