I applied for emergency SNAP for the first time ever on November 15th. My" worker" totally screwed up because she clicked on the wrong button on her computer and I was denied benefits. I contacted her supervisor and this was straightened out. I then applied for emergency rent assistance and was interviewed. The "worker" talked down to me like I was a idiot. I am a college educated professional woman who became ill for a year and am trying to get back on my feet. This worker put my life under a microscope and my spending habits. I am employed in retail for now making 9 bucks an hour trying to survive. She wanted itemized statements of every penny I spent of each paycheck. Then to add insult to injury she said I needed to be fingerprinted and photographed. What!? I asked why. She said to make sure it was me. They had my drivers license, SS#, birth certificate. I felt like I was being arrested for being poor. I refused this. How dare they! I have gotten mortgages and bought cars and they NEVER asked me for a photograph and fingerprints. How humiliating! I finally got SNAP benefits today with temporary card.....ONE MONTH after applying for emergency benefits and my "worker" was rude to me!!!! Advice to anyone: DO NOT let them be rude to you....push you around.....talk to a supervisor.....stand up for yourself! You are dealing with soul-less individuals who are burned out and could care less about you.
