There is a wonderful exhibit about the history of the Erie Canal currrently at the Ontario County Historical Society, located in Canandaigua, NY. You will learn about not only the typical information about the Erie Canal and its history, but there are displays on the building of the locks, the horse bridges, how the locks actually work and many, many different artifacts are on display as well. The historical society has done a nice job telling the story of the Erie Canal and its role in local history.
