Always a good experience here. I like that I can reserve books online and pick them up a little while later, without having to bug a librarian. My kids love story time downstairs, and the reader does a great job.

I think the Newark Library is great. Have gone into there for reference many times. They have gone out of their way to help me get the information I needed - even refered me to other libraries and places.

Tonight there were about 6 kids 10-14 olds years sitting down stair swearing, talking crap, and making racial slur. For about 45 minutes nothing happen. The librarians came over and talk once them once each (there were 2 librarian) in a very non -authoritative tone, with no consequences or call to action. I finally had it when they started talking crap about Chinese people/restaurant in Lyons. I got up, told them to shut up, and get out of the library because they were creating an unfriendly environment. The minute I raise my voice to librarian came over, and tried to kick me out for raising my voice at these kids. The kids were snickering, and were surprise at my indignation. They didn't want to leave. I told them I was going to call the cop. So I got up, went to my cell phone and call 911. After the kid left the librarian tried to kick me out for "screaming at the kids". I told them I can't leave because I call a police officer, and I need to stay until they show up About 8 minutes later the cop came. The police office came, took down my ID, and that is when the one of the librarian came out and told the police office that the director was on the phone, and that if he needs to talk to the director he can. I told the police that the librarian won't doing his job, and create an environment that was hostile, unfriendly, and unsafe for the patron. It just went back and forth for about 3 minutes. So I am officially kicked out of the Newark Library. The librarian told me that I should have talk 2 them 1st. That is a major cop out. The conversation these kids have were loud, rude, and hostile. If I am a guest in your home, as host, you need to create an environment that is safe and friend for everybody. I feel sorry for them, the environment that they create down is not safe. What has the world come to when you have kids swearing, telling racist joke, talking about sex on pornographic level. That is un-call for. I will be writing an email to Library Board Trustee and Director. I am very disappointed!!. Not because I got kicked out for doing what is right, and what the librarian should have done. but because they are creating an environment for the general public to go to. z
