Went for a short "me time" walk, and as usual I was able to see nature in the city, like this cute hare. At this place you can feed birds chickadees and nuthaches, see deers, wild turkeys, red squirrels, chipmunk and a porcupine if you are lucky. If you go to the left trail, and then turn 1st left, that's where I go when I need a quick walk and see animals. I added some pictures from previous years, since I have been going at this spot for the past 15 years, and every time I have some surprises. Amazing place for kids to climb trees that fell down.
In fall of 2022 lots of the paths between the boardwalks are surrounded by water or mud. People are making newer paths to get around. The boardwalks are not being maintained. Several areas have soft boards that should be replaced including those that have a large piece of plywood over them. Still a great place to go for a walk. Lots of options for paths to take but some maintenance would be nice. We have just discovered this little gem. We have not explored the whole area yet but the trails we have walked have been easy, beautiful and filled with squirrels, chickadees and nut hatch birds. It's a great place to take kids and let them run off some energy. Be careful if there is a warm up then freeze. The paths can become very icy and some ice grips make it a lot easier.
Beautiful trail especially if your visiting during winter and there is snow. I think you his is the best park I have ever been when there is snow. It is good for snowshoeing and deep skiing. You can walk a lot and take lots of pic s
Great chance to see nature in a 'close to home' location, and easy/beginner level trails. Located on Eagleson road, directly across from the Hazeldean Mall. Good amount of parking, but can be busy on weekends. Outhouse in the parking lot, and none in the trails, just in case you're wondering. Trails are fairly easy, and several entry points to start. Mild slopes, gravel, dirt and woodchip trails. Some trails have roots and tricky footing, but overall basic level hiking. Trails are used all year round, winter there is snowshoeing bring your own, x-country skiing bring your own, and hiking. Other seasons, lots of biking and hiking. Spring can see flooded parts, so make sure to wear proper footwear. Want to see nature, there are plenty of chances to feed the birds chick-a-dees in abundance bring some birdseed. Deer, porcupines, and there is a local beaver as well. What to bring: Proper footwear Bike/xc skis/snowshoes Water bottle no where to fill it at the trails Sunglasses Sunscreen Bug Spray mosquitoes and black flies Boots if rainyor rained day before Depends on season Enjoy the trails, Jay
One of the best parks in the area. Lots of nice trails with plenty of wildlife. Some of the trails are partially flooded for most of the year.
I go every day because it's close to home. I like it. It's a great loop. 5+ Km in an hour or so makes it easy to get out there and enjoy the fresh air.
Ottawa Walks - Close to the City. Good options for walking and fat biking winter. Tends to be busy on the weekends. Trails clearly marked. Beautiful birding sightings. Great way to get your steps in while surrounded by nature.
Very easy accessible and many trail routes to try. This is a Gem in Kanata. Someone put hearts made of ice on a tree on the trail around Valentine's day 2021. What a nice Valentine present to many people who love Old Quarry Trail! Thank You!
Very easy trail 2-3 people wide, with lots of birds and good scenery. Only issue is the parking P5 is way to small for the number of people attending.
In the heart of Kanata is a wonderful nature trail It is a great place to walk run or bike and ski in the winter and get in touch with nature. Plenty of birds animals and reptiles to photograph.also some of the most interesting rock formations in the Ottawa area. If you looking for a great nature trail to bring kids this is one I would recommend. Keep in mind the trail isn’t groomed so in spring and fall you may require proper footwear as parts of the path may be muddy and containing ground water. The parking area is gravel but also does tend to get muddy. I would highly recommend this trail to anyone who loves nature.
