The name O’Rourke evolved from the Gaelic name “O’Ruaire” and, for a period in Irish history, the O’Rourke’s were one of the great noble families of Ireland.

There are several reasons why the name O’Rourke is perfect for this Irish pub. O’Rourke is an Irish name with ancient roots,
providing the same authenticity and tradition that permeates the atmosphere. Throughout the pub there are vintage artifacts from Ireland as well as themed sections that represent several different styles of authentic Irish pubs.

The O’Rourke motto “Serviendo Guberno,” translates to, “I Govern by Serving.” This motto highlights some of the core values that the Pub holds dear. First, it demands us to consistently provide our customers with impeccable service by demonstrating warmth, graciousness, and efficient, personalized service. Next it calls us to provide a friendly and positive atmosphere for both our guests and employees. Finally, it reminds us to give back to our community, and consistently strive to improve the quality of life for those in South Bend.

The O’Rourke family has a Gaelic motto as well, “Buagh”, meaning victorious. This motto reflects the confident and successful attitude that is ingrained in the Notre Dame tradition. Our proximity to campus and constant contact with its students, staff, and alumni demands that we embody the same attitude as well. The Notre Dame Victory March is one of the most recognizable collegiate fight songs, which celebrates Notre Dame’s winning tradition, and inspires pride and nostalgia. In the same way, O’Rourke’s will become a tradition of the Notre Dame community, and will help support and celebrate each one of their many victories.

We got to this restaurant with 8 people at a rather busy hour with no reservation, so we didn't expect to be seated or eat right away. After almost an hour of waiting, we were finally seated... At a 6 person table. We waited 20 minutes for them to ask for drinks, and we ended up ordering at the same time. Fast forward an hour and a half, nobody has gotten their food yet. It took them over two hours since we sat down for 6 of us to get our food. Whilst the rest of us were eating, 2 people, who had ordered wraps (one of which was vegetarian), were still waiting on their food. Upon asking the waitstaff where the wraps were, we were told "they'll be out soon, we were waiting for fresh chicken." It took them a total of almost 2.5 hours from when we sat down for someone to get a vegetarian wrap without any chicken, because they were waiting for fresh chicken. After waiting for over 2 hours for food, you'd think it would at least be good, but sadly, it was sub-par. On one of the cheeseburgers we ordered, half of the cheese was melted whilst the other half was solid. The fries unexpectedly were spicy, whilst the sweet potato fries had cinnamon and sugar on them. The burger buns weren't fully thawed, and we're partially still frozen. All in all, it was not a very pleasant experience. If you're looking to come here with a large group of people, definitely remember to make a reservation first.

First class staff, appetizers to the entree full of flavor, hot and served with appropriate time to enjoy, not rushed. Very nice selection of bar specialties with plenty of refills on water and coffee. Forgot birthday cake but Mike S. saved the day with breaded pudding/ice cream with a candle:). Not a Notre Dame home football weekend, so we were able to enjoy the place. O'Rourke's will be a first choice destination for regular times and special events. Bon Appetite :)

Went the night before a Notre Dame Game, so it took a while to be seated as we expected. So we waited at the bar until our table was ready. Once we were seated, we were served relatively quickly. I thought the food was decent. I would go here again on my next trip to South Bend.

Have had only great experiences, a ton of whiskey options. The food I have had was all good. The bar staff is friendly and offered me a few samples. Will regularly return.
