Nellie James Too is a great place to spend a Friday date night. The menu is short but features a diverse range of interesting dishes and all the flavors are on point. The services was fantastic as well. We didn't experience any delays in timing but I'm not sure if that's because of the sparse crowd when we were there. I really enjoyed every single dish I had here. The pork belly in the mini breakfast was cooked to perfection and so were the turkey sliders. Mains were amazing as well. They had some locally sourced ostrich grilled to a perfect medium rare and some of the most succulent duck I've ever tasted rich without being too greasy. The accompaniments were also great, seasonally inspired and masterfully plated. Also enjoyed the a red wine cheesecake as dessert which tasted fantastic. Our host was very gracious and attentive. He made great recommendations and was very helpful. Overall, couldn't have asked for a better night. Definitely among Hamilton's best restaurants.
Excellent experience all-around. Chef Ken came out and introduced himself after the first course to give us an idea of what was to come. Then he came back to check up on us right before dessert. Definitely made us feel very welcome, and all of his food was amazing. I didn't know food could taste so good! I'm not a dessert person, but even I had to have a bit of everything!
Our first visit to Nellie James Too was well worth the trip. The food options were unique and flavourful. Nice atmosphere; cozy and relaxing. Great for a date night. The staff were friendly and attentive. Chef Ken even took a moment to come out and talk to the patrons. Overall I would rate it an excellent food experience.
Very cozy atmosphere, friendly staff. Chef Ken introduced himself at the end of the meal. I loved the ostrich starter, and my wife loved the warm salad with shrimp. The food was delicious and savory. A wonderful meal. Thank you.
Good Bistro, Great Value for money. Food slightly better than say The Keg, prices 2/3rds & atmosphere much better. Real comparable is a bistro in parts of Europe or trendy TO. Beef was truly fantastic, very juicy. Only need 1 side per 2 dinners. I'm told Lamb, Salmon & desserts were Service was a little absent minded but part of the fun. Skip the Caesar. House wine is good choice. Location good w easy parking. Overall recommend.
Very lovely food. I had the beef tenderloin which was very tender and well complimented. The restuarant's atmosphere was calming and pleasant, the servers were very thoughtful and chef Ken was nice enough to greet us himself.
Quite literally, the finest meal I have eaten out in years. From the owners personally greeting me, to an amazing wine recommendation, topped with amazing local produce and meats, I cant really recommend a place more. We had the Warm Goat Salad, Veal and Beef, and a side of Veggies, and it was more than enough for two $60 Total. Cheaper than a meal at the Keg, yet ten times better. The menu changes often depending on what local food they acquire, so that just makes me want to come back regularly. Seriously, if you want an amazing meal, for a totally reasonable price, go here. You will NOT be disappointed. Only Note: Music sucked. Heard the same song twice during our meal, and it wasn't a good selection. Put some effort into finding a decent, and larger Dinner playlist NJT! GO EAT HERE. Nuff said.
The head chef is extremely verbally abusive to staff. The cook flirts with staff making them uncomfortable. It is unacceptable for a restaurant to abuse their staff to the point of mental breakdown and then demand that they work the rest of their shift. The product here is good, but they won't last long with that kind of management.
Eating here was, without a doubt, the worst restaurant experience my friends and I had ever had. From my raw pork chop to the numerous unavailable menu and bar items, Nellie James Too disappointed on every level. Not one dish came with all of the ingredients mentioned and most came with ingredients that were not on the menu at all. For example, my boyfriend's overcooked beef tenderloin was served on a bed of olives...he hates olives and would've never ordered that. Rather than lentils, my raw pork was served with cold spaghetti squash. Yum. The mixed vegetable pasta came with ONLY broccoli and the vermicelli noodles were just overcooked mush. The salmon came with bacon piled on top of it...also not on the menu. The presentation of each dish was terrible. Nothing was warm enough. I've never seen so much food go to waste. It wasn't edible. The waitress refused to make mixed drinks because it was "too busy" and when the other waitress decided she would because it was less busy and it was our friend's birthday they were completely OUT of whiskey and vodka! At the end of the night, the debit machine cacked out...of course. They wanted my boyfriend to pay twice and if it went through twice they wanted to call him so he could come in and get the money back. It was laughable. This restaurant is a joke and the owners and chefs should be embarrassed. What a waste of money and time. My friends and I will never go back and will be sure to spread the word. I'd give zero stars, but it doesn't seem to be an option.
Really this review is 4.5 stars. Awesome food, cool artwork. Really limited beer selection - if you don't like Collective Arts, there isn't much else.
