Museum of Civilization

Stopped by for the evening light and ended up staying almost an hour just wandering the exhibits with my camera. The wood paneling and open atrium near the entrance made for some great shots once the late sun came through the windows around 6pm. One of the staff noticed me fumbling with a tripod and quietly pointed me toward a spot where photos are actually allowed, which I really appreciated. Quiet, well lit in the right corners, and honestly one of the more photogenic museum interiors I've come across in Quebec City.

We just barely managed to cover the museum in 4 hours. What I loved was that the indigenous people's exhibits were all made in consultation with community members. Also, the interactive displays, the audio stories were really appreciated. I loved how there were seating arrangements almost in every section. It was a truly immersive experience into the history of Quebec, up to the present day. Probably the most unique section here is the section covering the currentl important people of Quebec. It's really worth a visit. We bought tickets at the museum. The museum plan is also helpful. We missed the ma maison section though. Also, I'm learning french and it was fun to discover new french words as all captions are both in french and in english everywhere, and in the original languages as well where it's a first Nations exhibit. I appreciate the attempt to give voice to the struggles of the First Nations peoples till date.

Much better than I had anticipated. We spent over three hours and we still had more to see but we were too hungry to continue.nnFor me, the highlights were the Quebec autrement dit exhibit and the First Nations' our story exhibit.

I was so touched by the Titanic exhibit that I even cried a little.nThe care and effort put into the curating and presenting of all the treasures from the wreckage is unparalleled, the experience is so immersive and so educational you feel part of the experience from beginning to end I've really never seen such a well presented exhibit.nnThe American Indian part and the cultural aspect of the museum section was also visually striking and very well put together, if you go to any Museum in Quebec City this has to be your number one choice do not go to the museum of art that was a mistake on our part there is nothing there, the good section is closed for renovation so we basically wasted our time.
