My friend I went there in May 2017. Service was excellent to a point once got a little busier I had to get u twice for service. Because owner was so personable at the beginning I will pass on complaint. This location has been undergoing massive road construction so probably not too sure of how Busy resto walk in will get. Food was spectacular my friend is a vegan so they went the extra mile to ensure her needs were met. Dessert and liquere at end of meal were on the house! Lovely decor. Would highly recommend. Two dinner $100.
Il Mulino was amazing! We bought a groupon a couple months ago and were prepared for the usual "oh you are the groupon people" service that we have experienced from other restaurants in the past, but I have to say that the service here was amazing from start to finish. They were funny and attentive but not intrusive, they explained the menu, specials and options to us very well, and went above and beyond to ensure that we enjoyed our meal. The food was incredible...I had the calamari to start...SO good, then the lobster linguine which was amazing and the pear and berry strudel with ice cream for dessert. My husband had the mozzarella tomato salad and the chicken and shrimp pasta and the tartufo for dessert and he loved all of it and said this was his favorite new dinner spot! In fact we've already booked another dinner her for summerlicious! The prices are a little high for us, but not unreasonable considering the food and service quality. They said that they are very busy on Saturdays so I would suggest going during the week like we did and you won't be disappointed!
We used a LicingSocial coupon to try this place, and from friend's recommendations had very high expectations. The food was great, however the service was not at par with other restaurants in the same price category frankly, I've had better service at Jack Astor's. - the food came out quite quickly but the waiters seemed extremely rushed and the rest of the service did not keep up - we did not get any water re-fills until we asked for the bill sat there with empty glasses and couldn't even flag a waiter they were running by so quick and ignoring us completely - half way through my main course I asked for another glass of wine and it never came. When our desert was delivered the waiter remembered and was apologetic, but at this point I did not need any wine and was quite upset. Not sure if they were particularly stretched that night, but it was a regular Tuesday evening! Bottom line - if we were paying full price I would have been much more upset, but in the end this is what these deals are for - trying a place out. We will not be back.
Hosted an event here. The food was simply amazing! I personally had the rib steaks which was cooked to perfection hard to get a proper medium-rare these days. Others had the sea bass and it was also fantastic. Considering we had a party of 60, everyone's food was served hot and on time with plenty of "hors d'oeuvres and drinks beforehand. The staff assisted to make sure all were cared for. The event was a real winner! Also, there is a paid parking lot right across the street which was a bonus too. Highly recommended
I brought my girlfriend here as a gift to her. We live in Sudbury so I figured I'd take her shopping in Toronto then take her out to a nice dinner, too. I bought a Groupon after reading very good reviews, but alas I was left disappointed. The service itself as far as speed and what not was good, but the servers were a bit rude and they seemed to be far too concerned about the amount of time we were spending there. I took my time ordering and they kept trying to rush me I had to tell them 3 times within 5 minutes that I wasn't ready yet, each time my menu was open and I was obviously still reading. Throughout the courses, they then made constant remarks about how slowly I was eating I'm a slow eater. I know I'm a slow eater, which is why I made my reservations for 6pm when no one else was in the restaurant. The tables next to us never filled while we were there, either, so I don't see what the rush was all about. They made remarks about how I'd never be able to get reservations because I was taking so long to eat. I felt very rushed the entire time, and didn't feel at all like they appreciated my business. We spent roughly two hours in the restaurant, which I agree is a while, but keep in mind this was a 3-course meal. The food was ok, but not worth what I paid for it. I've had better meals for less than half the price. The desserts were quite honestly excellent and my girlfriend's meal was great but my steak was cold the second they brought it to me. I was very, very disappointed by that. I'm usually not even picky with my food being hot, but this was just plain COLD. Appetizers were ok but nothing special. When they brought me the cheque, I had been charged another $30 on top of the $89 for the Groupon. They used the $89 and then anything over I was charged for, which from what I understood was not how the Groupon was to be used unless I booked too far after getting the Groupon. Anyway, I wasn't about to get into a discussion over $30, it's not worth it for me. I'd rather pay it and move on, I assumed maybe I'd misunderstood something. It was then that they added a 17% gratuity themselves... for a table of two? I've heard of and experienced a gratuity being added for large parties but I've NEVER had it for a table of two. As they approached the table, they said, "look young man, here's the original bill, here's your bill and we added a 17% gratuitity." Look, guys, I know I'm young and I definitely look it, it should be noted that I'm 17 years old but I do very well for myself especially given my age. I own two cars, I like to take my girlfriend places and treat her... and I know the proper way to tip. I'm actually a server myself at a local restaurant and as such and I appreciate servers and always tip VERY well. I don't think they had much faith in me tipping well based solely on the fact that I had used a Groupon and that I was young. I was planning on tipping them twice what they added themselves but since they decided to make their own tip they lost that. Very disappointed. I won't be back and I wouldn't recommend it. Cliff notes: Constantly rushed, rude remarks, cold food, didn't feel appreciated and felt judged based on my age. But good bread and good dessert.
Really liked this restaurant, beautiful ambiance, friendly but not overpowering service and great food. We had a living social deal with wine, and three course dinner you get to choose from the entire menu which is fantastic value and makes its more affordable for a medical student budget. The antipasti platter is one of the best I've ever had, and my veal tenderloin was the meat special and absolutely delicious. My boyfriend really enjoyed his rack of lamb, but the octopus carpaccio was a little disappointing in terms of portion. The Lindt chocolate ice cream tastes delicious, and my boyfriend ate every bite of the cheesecake. It was a busy Saturday night so service was a bit slow, but they were always checking in on us to let us know where our food was coming and to see how everything tasted. Can't wait to go back
My husband & I decided to have our Valentine's dinner last night to avoid the set menus offered by most restaurants on Valentine's day. We had originally chosen & made a reservation at Blu but then chose Il Mulino based on its fantastic reviews & menu choices. My husband & I were really looking forward to this dinner & a chance to have a quiet evening alone together. The restaurant's decor IS very nice. The arched ceiling & chandeliers make it a beautiful location for special occasions & the tables being well spaced apart makie it a lovely spot for couples to have a romantic dinner. We arrived at 7:30 p.m. and were, at that point, one of six couples in the place. Our waiter, Fernando, promptly came to our table with a basket of a delicious Rosemary toasted bread. We decided to order a bottle of wine to accompany our meal. Their selection of wines was vast offering many choices from different regions around the world. The Italian red wine list alone was nine pages long though most bottles were over $100. We decided on the 2010 Chianti "Riserva" Sensi $67 which was perfect for our dinner choices of Agnello del Fornaio $44.95 Herb Crusted Rack of Lamb in a Pommery Mustard Sauce & Lombata Di Vitello $38.95 12 oz Grilled Veal Chop with Roasted Shallots & Port Reduction. We started our meal splitting the appetizer Mozzarella e Pomodori $16.95 Fresh Bufala Mozzarella, Vine Ripened Tomatoes and Fresh Basil Drizzled with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and a Balsamic Reduction. It was very good BUT we were quite surprised at the portion size, Considering the price, we were expecting more than three small slices of tomato & cheese. A disappointing start to an even more disappointing meal to come. After some time, our main course arrived. The vegetables were done to perfection & the sauces on both the veal & lamb were delicious. Although both meats had a nice flavour, both were rather tough & the lamb was underdone. I asked for medium rare but some parts of my lamb were almost raw while the rest was very rare. If the waiter had bothered to come back to the table & asked how our meals were, we would have mentioned it but at that point the restaurant was getting very busy & we were having a hard time flagging him down. We were starting to feel ignored & quite frankly invisible, not something one expects at a restaurant of this calibre. At around 9 p.m. we asked for a dessert menu. And yes, we had to flag the waiter down to ask as we were still being ignored. I ordered a cappuccino & chocolate biscotti & my husband also ordered a biscotti, The waiter brought my cappuccino & after about 15 minutes we wondered whether he had forgotten about the biscotti. I had wanted to have the biscotti with my cappuccino which by that time I had finished. The waiter said it would be out soon but that it takes time? At that point I assumed they must be baking the biscotti fresh or that they presented it in some special manner. Moments later the waiter brought the two biscottii, They were nothing special, similar to biscotti one gets from Starbucks. Perhaps they needed time to thaw? By 9:30 p.m. we had had enough so asked for the bill. We dine out a lot & usually leave at least a 20% tip. When we choose to dine at a finer establishment, we expect a level of service to match. We did not get that level of service so tipped accordingly, The evening had started out great but quickly went downhill. As we left I felt very upset that we had just spent over $200 of our hard earned money on a mediocre dinner & poor service. I know this restaurant gets rave reviews & maybe we just hit it on a bad night. In any case, we won't be back anytime soon. Thanks Il Mulino for making this years Valentine's dinner one we would rather forget!
My new favourite Italian restaurant in Toronto. The mushroom and smoked duck linguine is a must-try. Table next to us asked if they had whole wheat pasta. The server went back to the kitchen to ask, returned to the table and told them that they had "called over and they are sending some right away". How's that for service!
Wow! New owners of il Mulino got it right! One month in and the decor is perfect for Forest Hill and food is off the charts. The wait staff knew exactly what we needed and when. The charming owner, Sokol, is so passionate about fine food that his passion is everywhere. The chef takes haute cuisine to a new level. Can't wait to come back!
Il Mulino Nuovo was a great experience for our team. Our staff dine there often and it has become a bonus itself. The food is very tasty, atmosphere is elegant and the staff exceed our expectation every time. Plus, our staff got to see the famous DRAKE there and it was great. Highly recommended elegant italin cucina. Thank you and keep up the good work.
