Story

Walk through our famous doors to be greeted by the owner, seated for a glass of our best wine, and explore our mouth-watering menu that’s full of dishes like our popular seafood casserole and lobster rolls. Gaze at the river and wildlife that surrounds our historic restaurant while our talented pianist plays softly in the background. Join us for Saturday and Sunday Brunch with breakfast legends like the Belgium Waffles topped with Maine Blueberries and whipped cream or our Lobster or Crabmeat Benedict with our Ultimate Mimosa or Shrimp Mary! Our menu changes with the seasons.

The food is always excellent. The ingredients are fresh, the preparation classic and the taste sublime. We have eaten at the Muddy Rudder many times. The desserts are heavenly. The owner visits tables and always listens to comments whether complimentary or complaining. Once with no complaint from us the owner comped our dessert because he felt we had to wait too long from ordering to delivery of our food. Great attention to detail.

Something for everyone. There's a large cocktail lounge/bar area. There's a nice view over a tidal stream.

We always enjoy dining here. They do a nice job with their entrees, wait staff is friendly, and the view is great. A great place to dine if you're a tourist visiting Freeport (or for locals planning a special evening out). It's nice when they have live music (piano) as well - creates a terrific dining atmosphere. Ownership genuinely cares about the experience of diners, and it shows. We've attended several of their special wine tasting dinners, which are a wonderful value and make for a great date night. Highly recommended. We also reserved the back room for our rehearsal dinner in 2012 and the owner, chef, and staff did an excellent job hosting our special evening - took care of everything for us, and it was reasonably priced. Thank you!

Great seafood and service. I enjoy coming here often and during special times they have a live piano player which makes dinner even more enjoyable.

Very slow and noisy, drinks very strong, sent 1 back. Server forgot to put in order, comped salad and 2 chowder. Have had better flavored ribs. Potato and carrots great, nicely flavored. Finally had a server that was attentive, concerned about our needs. Left her a personal tip, aside from other tip mainly because of the great service she provided. Overall would not recommend, ifyou want a quiet romantic dinner, go after 6 or 7. GCH
