The Montreal Biodome is a facility located in Montreal that allows visitors to walk through replicas of four ecosystems found in the Americas. The building was originally constructed for the 1976 Olympic Games as a velodrome. It hosted both track cycling and judo events. Renovations on the building began in 1989 and in 1992 the indoor nature exhibit was opened.

This was easily one of my top 2 favorite museums out of the 5 I visited in Montreal. I learned so much about bugs—who knew it could be so fun?! The live butterfly section was absolutely breathtaking, as always, but what truly stole the show for me was the LIVE ant farm!nnI couldn’t believe how fascinated I was—just standing there for 10 minutes watching ants work. I even caught myself cheering on one ant as it cut a leaf, worried it might fall. That’s how invested I was in this super cool exhibit.nnHighly recommend this place—it’s such a unique and memorable experience!
I had a Magical Experience at the Montreal Insectarium nnI visited the Montreal Insectarium with my best friend and had such a wonderful time! From the moment we walked in, I felt like a curious child again. We explored so many fascinating insects, but the butterflies absolutely stole my heart. Watching them flutter around was pure magic and yes, I even played with them!nnThe space is thoughtfully designed, immersive, and peaceful. It’s not just educational, it’s also incredibly calming and joyful. Whether you're going with kids, friends, or on a solo adventure, it’s a unique experience that connects you to nature in the most beautiful way.nnHighly recommend if you're looking for something both fun and soul-soothing in Montreal.
I personally hate insects, but this place did an amazing job of making the experience interesting! There’s a section where you can be right next to a lot of butterflies flying past and around you. Just be careful not to touch them, though, because there was another section where you could see butterflies in almost every colour palette possible.nnP.S. Don’t forget to look at the African ants carrying all those leaves and other things back to their colony!
An absolute gem! I had an incredible time at the Montreal Insectarium — it was one of the highlights of my trip. The insect exhibits were fascinating and beautifully presented, and I found myself totally mesmerized by the details and variety on display. The butterfly garden was pure magic — peaceful, vibrant, and full of life. It's clear how much thought and care goes into this place. I’ll definitely be visiting again the next time I’m in town. Highly recommend to anyone curious about nature, science, or just looking for a unique and immersive experience!
I hadn't been to the insectarium in over a decade. It was a nice experience but it's short. If you're planning on going, it will all be done in about 30 minutes, unfortunately. The entrance is fun as it looks like you're going into a cave of sorts. The facts about the insects are neat. Then you enter the room with insects on display pinned against the wall, which are interesting to look at, but that's it. The final place is the warm butterfly room. Where you get to walk around amongst the butterflies and other insects that are in their own sections. That's the fun part. The ants carrying food and walking on the log were really cool! I wish they had a larger ant farm in glass so that we could see the entire layout. This place has so much potential to be a great museum, but it settled with average. I hope in the future they add more to it.
