The Montreal Biodome is a facility located in Montreal that allows visitors to walk through replicas of four ecosystems found in the Americas. The building was originally constructed for the 1976 Olympic Games as a velodrome. It hosted both track cycling and judo events. Renovations on the building began in 1989 and in 1992 the indoor nature exhibit was opened.

The Montreal Biodome was such an amazing experience. I was really impressed by how open and natural the environment felt. The habitats are beautifully designed to mimic real ecosystems, and what really stood out to me was how free the animals were to move around. There were very few cages or obvious barriers, which made it feel more immersive and respectful of the animals’ space.nnWalking through each zone, from the tropical rainforest to the Laurentian maple forest, felt like stepping into a completely different part of the world. You could hear the birds, feel the changes in temperature and humidity, and really get a sense of how these ecosystems function. It’s a great place for all ages and super educational without feeling like a traditional museum or zoo.nnThe only small downside was that some of the animals were resting in the cozy little shelters designed for them, so in a few cases, you couldn’t see what they were. I also noticed there weren’t many signs identifying the animals, which made it a bit hard to know exactly what you were looking at. But overall, that didn’t take away from how unique and memorable the visit was.nnI highly recommend visiting if you’re in Montreal. It’s a beautiful and thoughtfully designed space that brings you closer to nature in a really respectful and inspiring way.
We went to the Biodôme in Montreal with the kids, and honestly, it was a really interesting experience. It’s not just about looking at animals — each section is made to feel like the animal’s real environment, and that kind of pulls you in. You start to notice how everything — animals, spaces, even people — are connected in small ways.nnThere were a lot of different animals, from penguins to birds flying overhead, and the kids were completely into it. It wasn’t too crowded, and it gave us a chance to slow down and just take it all in. I think it left more of an impression than we expected — in a quiet, thoughtful kind of way.
We got the multi-passport and visited four out of the five locations. This one was undoubtedly the best. If you feel like you don’t have the time or just want to try one, visit the Biodome. It boasts beautiful architecture, easy navigation, and an abundance of amazing animals in beautiful environments. The penguins steal the show—they swim so fast as if they’re trying to impress the audience. Honestly, it was the best penguin experience I’ve ever had. They made me laugh so much! Don’t miss the sturgeon, either—it’s an insane prehistoric-looking creature and incredibly large. The bird section was a bit of a letdown compared to the rest of the place, but hey, there were capybaras too!
Easy to follow pathways through the 4 ecosystems, so you don’t have to worry about missing a spot. Each ecosystem is unique and has its own conditions and wildlife. Saw some really cool creatures such as the golden lion monkey! The staff were also very helpful and happy to spread their knowledge. Tickets are affordable and even 1 hour is enough to see everything.
They sure packed a lot into this space! The different climates were no joke! The variety of animals was good for the size. Also, they had puffins which was awesome and unexpected!
